Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mauro Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mauro Mendes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Marquez!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Mauricio Rocha and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marquez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Marquez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mendes sprawls well. Mendes wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Marquez gets slowly back to his feet.

Mendes instigates a clinch.

Mendes is trying to trip Marquez. He has hold of a leg but Marquez is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Mendes persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Mauro Mendes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carlos Marquez.

Mendes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mendes avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Mendes shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Marquez is trying to defend but Mendes finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Marquez has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Mendes escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Mendes!

Marquez tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Mendes presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Mendes avoids the attempt from Marquez to control.
Marquez bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Marquez connects with a couple of short punches.
Marquez wants to control from the top but Mendes keeps moving.
Mendes is pulling down on Marquez's head. It's preventing any offense from Marquez, at least for the moment.

Marquez is fighting to break Mendes's control of his arms but Mendes is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Marquez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mendes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Marquez has managed to get both his arms back between Mendes's legs - danger averted.
Mendes has control of Marquez's left arm, preventing Marquez from doing any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mendes has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Marquez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mendes moves away.

Mendes dives in and scores a takedown into Marquez's guard.
Marquez is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Mendes dives into side control.

Marquez is looking to reverse the position.
Mendes staying calm.

Mendes stands up and beckons Marquez to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marquez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mendes as he jumps to the side.

Mendes pushes Marquez up against the cage in a clinch.

Marquez gets control of Mendes's arms and successfully pulls guard. Marquez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Mendes is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mendes seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Marquez for as long as he can get away with.
Mendes forces his way into half guard.
Marquez manages to get to full guard.
Mendes tries to stand but Marquez is controlling from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mendes controls from within his opponent's guard.
Mendes trying to control but Marquez is working from the bottom.
Marquez pulls Mendes in close to his closed guard and prevents Mendes from doing any damage or advancing position.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Marquez manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mendes drags the fight down to the ground.
Marquez is stalling in the full guard.
Marquez wants to stand but Mendes has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Marquez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Marquez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mendes swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Marquez is posturing up here but Mendes has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Marquez tries to roll out but it's too tight and Marquez has to tap! Slick submission there by Mendes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mauro Mendes!
