PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Heath Slater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Will Pitt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Will Pitt will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Heath Slater!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Will Pitt!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pitt fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Slater avoids it really well and circles away.
Pitt misses with an attempted mid kick.
Pitt tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Slater swivels and escapes.

Pitt shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Slater manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Slater has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Pitt is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Pitt drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Slater gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Heath Slater has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Will Pitt.

Pitt jumps guard and drags Slater to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Pitt is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Pitt looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Slater passes into half guard.

Pitt tries to get to full guard but Slater has control of the leg.
Pitt trying to control but Slater postures up.

Slater decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Pitt tries a head kick but it misses.
Slater seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Will Pitt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Pitt clinches.
Pitt looks winded!

Pitt's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Pitt throws a leg kick
and Slater counters with a two punch combo.
Pitt dives in and grabs Slater's left leg, looking for a takedown. Slater pushes down on Pitt's head and hops out.
Slater tries to counter by clinching up but Pitt breaks away and moves out of range.
No luck for Slater with that takedown attempt.
Pitt looks for a takedown but Slater sprawls well.
Nice takedown defense from Pitt. No joy for Slater on that attempt.
Slater scores with a head kick.
Slater keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Slater throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Pitt has Slater up against the cage in a clinch.
Slater fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Slater is trying to pull guard but Pitt has him pressed against the cage.
Slater tries to pull guard but Pitt holds him up against the cage and eventually Slater drops back down to his feet.
Slater jumps guard but Pitt turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Slater fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Slater misses with a punch to the body.
Slater tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Pitt just stands there and leans against the cage.
Pitt wants a takedown.

Slater breaks from the clinch.
Pitt fails with a takedown attempt.

Slater decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Pitt tries to roll over but Slater keeps him under control.

Slater stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Pitt to get to his feet.
Pitt stuffs the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Heath Slater dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Slater takes the fight into the clinch.
Pitt lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Slater jumps guard but Pitt stands there with Slater around his waist. Slater gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Pitt successfully pulls guard.
Pitt throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Slater decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Pitt closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pitt has had enough of the clinch but Slater keeps him there for the moment.

Slater gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Pitt regains guard.
Slater stopping the sweep attempt from Pitt.

Pitt pushes Slater off and gets back to his feet.

Pitt shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Slater has one foot on Pitt's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Pitt is breathing heavily.
Heath Slater is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pitt tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Slater swivels and escapes.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pitt.
Slater throws a quick counter head kick but Pitt was just out of range.
Heath Slater is winning the standup battle so far.

Pitt swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pitt keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Slater forces Pitt back against the cage and clinches.

Slater manages to pull guard.

Slater looking for a guillotine here but Pitt defends easily.
Pitt won't allow Slater to sweep him here.
Heath Slater overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pitt trying to control but Slater is working from the bottom.
Pitt throwing strikes but missing.
Slater wants to stand and escape but Pitt is having none of it.
Pitt wants to pass the guard but Slater is keeping the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Pitt trying to control but Slater is working from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Slater fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Heath Slater. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pitt shoots in but Slater avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Slater throws a body punch but Pitt moves out of range.
Slater tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pitt sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Slater somewhat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Slater dives in and scores a takedown into Pitt's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Heath Slater will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Slater throws a head kick that Pitt semi-blocks.
Pitt shoots in looking for a takedown. Slater tries to sprawl out of it but Pitt keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Slater manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Slater throws a big counter combination but Pitt scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Pitt drives through and clinches with Slater against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pitt drags the fight down to the ground.
Slater's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Pitt throws his legs up looking for a submission but Slater uses it to pass to side control.
Pitt wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Pitt takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pitt tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Pitt tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Slater presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Pitt tries to control Slater's body but Slater pushes him off. Pitt squirms to his side and now Slater has his back!
Pitt looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Pitt is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Slater keeps control of the position easily here as Pitt tries to buck him off.
Pitt rolls, trying to escape but Slater keeps control of the position.
Pitt wants to get back to his feet.
Pitt wants to control his opponent's hands but Slater gets his hands free.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
I would not like to be Pitt right now.
Pitt just trying to survive but Slater is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Slater's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Pitt is trying to stand back up.
What can Pitt do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Heath Slater showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Slater, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
