Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jim Suarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Hopkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jim Suarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shane Hopkins!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Anthony Taglia and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Suarez gets caught napping as Hopkins dives in and scores a takedown. Suarez manages to retain guard.
Suarez is trying to control the position but Hopkins postures up.
Hopkins trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hopkins engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Hopkins looking to pass the guard.

Hopkins stands up and waves to Suarez to follow him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hopkins closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Suarez is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hopkins gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Hopkins has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Suarez is trying to keep an underhook but Hopkins manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Suarez is looking to get back to is feet but Hopkins passes into side control.
Suarez tries to improve position but can't.

Hopkins is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Suarez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Suarez is trying to control Hopkins's posture but Hopkins avoids it.
A lull in the action here.

Hopkins decides to stand up, so the ref orders Suarez to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hopkins fails in his attempt to clinch.
A head kick misses from Hopkins.

Hopkins shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Suarez's guard.
Suarez is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Hopkins dives into side control.

Suarez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hopkins decides to stand up, so the ref orders Suarez to his feet.
Hopkins wants to clinch.

Hopkins scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Suarez bucks up and tries to throw Hopkins off but instead Hopkins has got his back!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Suarez just trying to survive but Hopkins is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Suarez is really stuck here.
Hopkins biding his time, controlling Suarez.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Suarez wants to get back to his feet.

Hopkins is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Suarez defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Hopkins's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hopkins gets his hands free as Suarez looks to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shane Hopkins dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Hopkins scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Hopkins misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Suarez is trying to buck Hopkins off.
Hopkins has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Suarez tries to improve position but can't.
A lull in the action here as Hopkins stalls from top position.
Suarez defending against the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hopkins swings around for an armbar but Suarez sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Hopkins's guard.
Hopkins has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hopkins has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Suarez is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Hopkins has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Suarez clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Suarez manages to stand up with Hopkins still on his back. Eventually Hopkins drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.
Sloppy strikes from Hopkins. Those never looked like landing.
Hopkins is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hopkins darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Suarez has one foot on Hopkins's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Hopkins is breathing heavily.

Suarez feints and as Hopkins raises his hands in defense, Suarez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Hopkins had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Suarez defends it easily.

Suarez throws a big right hand that misses.
Shane Hopkins has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hopkins is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Suarez sitting in guard here, content to control.

Suarez gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Suarez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Hopkins appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

Hopkins takes the fight into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Suarez tries to pull guard but Hopkins forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Hopkins has hold of one of Suarez's legs. Suarez is fighting the takedown attempt but Hopkins gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Suarez wriggles free and stands up.
Hopkins scores with a push kick.

Suarez pushes Hopkins up against the cage in a clinch.
Suarez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Hopkins pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jim Suarez will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Hopkins fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Suarez, pushing him back against the cage.

Hopkins pulls Suarez into guard.
Hopkins not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Suarez trying to control the position from guard on top but Hopkins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hopkins wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Hopkins is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Suarez stands up and waves to Hopkins to follow him.
Suarez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hopkins pinned against the cage. Hopkins gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Suarez tries to clinch there but Hopkins circles away.

Suarez is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Hopkins is defending well for now.

Hopkins turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Hopkins manages to end up in side control.

Suarez throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Suarez takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Hopkins misses with a double jab.
Hopkins takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hopkins gets a double leg takedown into Suarez's guard.
Suarez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Suarez keeping moving, preventing Hopkins from controlling successfully.
Suarez is trying to control the position but Hopkins postures up.
Hopkins controlling from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hopkins's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Suarez wants to hit a switch here but Hopkins passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Suarez there!

Hopkins prevents Suarez from getting the reversal.
Suarez wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hopkins sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Hopkins punching from mount but Suarez doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Hopkins content just to control the position here.
Suarez is trying desperately to improve position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hopkins throwing strikes here but Suarez is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Shane Hopkins comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hopkins has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
