PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Denver Morris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andreas Dries (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Denver Morris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Andreas Dries!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Aafke Stam and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dries shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Morris sprawls well. Morris wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Dries gets slowly back to his feet.
Dries tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Morris defends well and Dries ends up having to push Morris into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Morris throws a sloppy head kick and Dries moves out of range easily.

Dries shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Dries postures up in Morris's guard and throws a big left but Morris blocks it.
Dries trying to control the position from guard on top but Morris is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dries avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Morris has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dries can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Morris could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Dries would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Morris is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dries defends well.

Morris might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Dries must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Morris is breathing heavily.
Morris wants to stand up but Dries is controlling him.

Morris has an active guard here but Dries has managed to pass into half guard.

Morris is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Dries pulls his head out easily.
Dries looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Morris with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Dries working the head and body with strikes.
Dries content to control rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Morris is looking to improve his position.
Dries wants to free his trapped foot but Morris is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dries is trying to control. Morris wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Dries might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Morris haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Dries fails with a takedown attempt.

Morris is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Dries to keep the fight standing.

Dries has clasped his hands together around Morris's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Morris bucks up and tries to throw Dries off but instead Dries has got his back!

Morris manages to reverse the position and now he's in Dries's guard. Nice work there by Morris.
Denver Morris overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Morris gets to his feet - Dries follows without any prompting.
Dries throws a head kick but Morris moves out of range.
Morris drops down looking for a counter takedown but Dries sprawls and moves away.
Dries moves out of range as Morris throws a body kick.
Andreas Dries seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dries changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Morris tries to avoid it but Dries manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Morris to the ground. Morris escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Morris went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Dries moves into the clinch.

Dries gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Morris kicks off Dries and gets to his feet.
Dries is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Morris gets caught flat footed, as Dries shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Morris is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Morris fails to pull guard.
Dries looking to slow down the pace here.
Dries trying to control the position but instead, Morris has worked for underhooks and has pushed Dries into the cage.
Dries is persisting with his attempts to control the action in the clinch, rather than do any real damage.

Morris manages to break the clinch.
Dries fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Morris is looking for a counter combo.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Dries tries to sprawl but Morris drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Morris gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Dries gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Morris is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dries can do to turn this around?
Dries controlling the action here for a moment.
Morris tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Dries just stands there and leans against the cage.

Morris's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Dries moves into the clinch.

A looping hook to the body misses from Dries. Morris does a little dance to reset his feet.

Morris manages to pull guard.

Dries is sitting in close to Morris's body. Morris has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Dries is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Dries is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Morris.
