Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mesmo leaves Cruz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Cruz looking to score a takedown here. Mesmo is defending well but Cruz drives through and ends up in Mesmo's guard.
Cruz is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Mesmo wants to sweep here but Cruz controlling him for the moment.
Cruz looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mesmo can't keep his opponent in guard - Cruz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Cruz looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Cruz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mesmo tries to roll over but Cruz keeps him under control.
Cruz content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Cruz looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Cruz passes to side control.

Cruz takes a little break here. Mesmo wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
You can see the frustration on Mesmo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Cruz has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Mesmo is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Cruz yanks on the arm and Mesmo is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Cruz.
