Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Jason Statham!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
29 - 34 - 0, fighting out of London, Jimmy Caldwell!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Daniel Bishop and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caldwell feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Statham pushes Caldwell off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Sloppy strikes from Statham. Those never looked like landing.
Caldwell misses with a jab, cross combination.
A head kick by Statham misses
and Caldwell counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Statham wants to stand back up but Caldwell manages to pass into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Caldwell content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Statham wants to control but Caldwell postures up.
Caldwell has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at London MMA Club. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Caldwell controls the position.
Caldwell stands up and beckons Statham to his feet.
Statham throws a head kick but Caldwell moves out of range.
Caldwell takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Caldwell is looking to clinch.
Statham looks to score with a jab to the body but Caldwell is just out of range.
Caldwell fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
It looks like Jason Statham has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Statham attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Statham throws a right hand that Caldwell ducks under and follows up with a left that Caldwell also avoids with ease.
Jason Statham seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Statham misses with a double jab
and Caldwell counters with a left and a right... and another left... and another!! That last one turned off the lights! Statham has no idea who he is and is as he gazes up at the spotlights. Brutal knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Jimmy Caldwell!
During a confident post fight interview, Jimmy Caldwell thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
