PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between David Woodward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guliver Destroyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guliver Destroyer told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, David Woodward!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Guliver Destroyer!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Destroyer fails with a takedown attempt.
Destroyer shoots for a double leg takedown but Woodward sprawls well. He's pushed Destroyer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Nice takedown defense from Woodward. No joy for Destroyer on that attempt.
Woodward seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
David Woodward has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Guliver Destroyer.
Destroyer shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Woodward pinned against the cage. Woodward gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Woodward could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Woodward bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Destroyer's guard.

Destroyer pulls Woodward in close to his closed guard and prevents Woodward from doing any damage or advancing position.
Woodward throws an elbow that misses. Destroyer uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Woodward's guard. Nice move by Destroyer!

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Woodward holds on and takes a little breather.

Destroyer stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Guliver Destroyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Woodward circles away from the clinch attempt.
Woodward tries to clinch but Destroyer moves out of range.
Destroyer moves in looking to clinch but Woodward pushes him off.
Woodward tries to counter by clinching up but Destroyer breaks away and moves out of range.

Woodward gets a takedown into half guard.
Woodward throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Destroyer wants to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Woodward looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Destroyer with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Woodward not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Destroyer slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Woodward content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Destroyer wants to sweep here but Woodward controlling him for the moment.
Woodward is looking to work some ground and pound but Destroyer has wrist control.
Woodward throws an elbow that misses. Destroyer uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Woodward's guard. Nice move by Destroyer!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Destroyer gets to his feet - Woodward follows without any prompting.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that David Woodward will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Woodward counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Woodward.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Destroyer throws a low kick but it's checked well by Woodward.
Woodward keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Destroyer shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Woodward sprawls well. Woodward wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Destroyer gets slowly back to his feet.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Destroyer.

Woodward manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Woodward is trying to pull guard but Destroyer has him pressed against the cage.
Woodward jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Destroyer walks away with a smile on his face. Woodward gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Destroyer throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Woodward tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Destroyer is in Woodward's guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Woodward manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Destroyer manages to get himself to full guard.

Destroyer is adopting a defensive guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Woodward dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Woodward throws a head kick but Destroyer moves out of range.
Destroyer throws a fast counter high kick but Woodward manages to duck under it in time.

Woodward shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Woodward was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Destroyer throws Woodward to one side and escapes!
Destroyer feints a jab promting Woodward to slip. Destroyer then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Woodward slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Destroyer fails with an attempt to clinch.

Destroyer scores with a knee to the head.


It looks like David Woodward has been cut.
Destroyer's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Destroyer is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Woodward pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Destroyer tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Woodward smiles and moves away.

Guliver Destroyer seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Destroyer throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Woodward was covering up waiting for the punch and Destroyer finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Woodward tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Destroyer's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Destroyer trying to control the position from guard on top but Woodward is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Woodward is working an open guard so Destroyer takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Woodward gets tackled into the cage by Destroyer. Destroyer maintains the clinch.
Destroyer is trying to pull guard but Woodward has him pressed against the cage.

Destroyer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Woodward counters with a left and a right that stings Destroyer.

Woodward feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Guliver Destroyer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Woodward has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
