Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brendan Maranz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deandre Dawson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brendan Maranz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Deandre Dawson!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Steve Montenegro and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maranz closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dawson circles away.

Dawson gets a takedown into half guard.
Well, if Dawson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Dawson passes into side control, despite Maranz's attempt to control the position.
Dawson wants to control but Maranz is keeping him busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maranz stops Dawson from passing to mount.

Dawson is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Maranz's shoulder. That is not cool.
Maranz is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Dawson's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Dawson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Maranz doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Dawson.

Maranz is in all sorts of trouble here.

Dawson connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Dawson is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Maranz has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Maranz!

Maranz stays in close to Dawson's body and controls the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dawson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maranz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dawson.
Maranz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dawson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Dawson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Maranz sprawls well initially but Dawson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Maranz kicks off Dawson and gets to his feet.

Dawson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Maranz manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dawson is looking to stand up but Maranz won't let him.
Dawson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Maranz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Maranz controls Dawson momentarily but Dawson frees himself.

Maranz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Maranz is not content to let Dawson control the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Maranz fails to land the takedown.
Maranz goes for a double leg but Dawson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Dawson continues to drive forward.

Dawson is putting a hurting on Maranz here, landing some big shots from side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Dawson works to advance to full mount. Maranz defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Dawson looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Maranz slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Dawson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Dawson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Maranz is trying to get back to full guard.

Deandre Dawson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Dawson is looking to advance position but Maranz won't allow it.
Dawson moves into full mount! Maranz won't be happy about that!
Dawson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dawson lands a couple of good shots and Maranz has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Deandre Dawson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Dawson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Maranz was covering up waiting for the punch and Dawson finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Dawson is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Dawson bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Dawson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Maranz pushes Dawson off and scrambles back to his feet.
Dawson throws a wild body kick that Maranz sees coming a mile off.
Maranz is trying hard to land a takedown here. Dawson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Maranz chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Dawson can pounce on him.
Dawson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Maranz.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Dawson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Maranz is positioning himself well to prevent Dawson advancing to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dawson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Maranz wants to get back to full guard but Dawson has mounted him!

Dawson scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Dawson has hold of Maranz's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Maranz manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Dawson has control of Maranz's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Maranz regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Maranz is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Deandre Dawson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Dawson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
