Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Danial Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Saul Goodman Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Danial Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Saul Goodman Jr!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goodman Jr doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Griffin counters with a three punch combo that has Goodman Jr backing up. Goodman Jr nods at Griffin to acknowledge the strikes.

Griffin gets tackled into the cage by Goodman Jr. Goodman Jr maintains the clinch.

Goodman Jr pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Goodman Jr keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Goodman Jr is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Griffin's half guard.
Goodman Jr content to control rather than advance.
Griffin regains full guard. Nicely done.
Goodman Jr in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Griffin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Goodman Jr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Goodman Jr tries to free his leg and advance position but Griffin is retaining full guard.
Griffin is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Griffin is controlling Goodman Jr's posture.
Griffin looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Griffin wants to get back to his feet but Goodman Jr is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Goodman Jr distracts Griffin with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Griffin is looking to stand up but Goodman Jr isn't so interested in that idea.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Goodman Jr got a little sloppy there for a moment and Griffin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Goodman Jr has managed to get both his arms back between Griffin's legs - danger averted.
Griffin pulls Goodman Jr in to control the position.
Griffin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Griffin looking for a sweep. Not yet Griffin, not yet.
Goodman Jr controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Goodman Jr postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Goodman Jr looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Griffin is fending him off so far but Goodman Jr persists. Nope, Griffin circles away and we're back to standing.
Griffin throws a quick counter kick to the body but Goodman Jr avoids it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Goodman Jr tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Goodman Jr tries to score a power double leg takedown but Griffin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Goodman Jr somewhat.
Griffin throws a big counter combination but Goodman Jr scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Danial Griffin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Saul Goodman Jr.

Griffin slaps away a takedown attempt from Goodman Jr, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Griffin appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Griffin looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Goodman Jr closes the distance and clinches.

Goodman Jr gets control of Griffin's arms and successfully pulls guard. Goodman Jr will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Goodman Jr throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Griffin escapes and throws Goodman Jr's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Goodman Jr trying his best to control but Griffin has mounted him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Goodman Jr reaches up to try and control the position but Griffin seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Goodman Jr rolls and tries to escape and now Griffin has his back!

That was a close round but I would say that Danial Griffin will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Goodman Jr shoots in for a double leg but Griffin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Griffin went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Goodman Jr shoots in for a takedown but Griffin shows good takedown defense.
As Goodman Jr looks to move away, Griffin throws a big counter combo but Goodman Jr just gets out of the way.
Griffin throws a leg kick but Goodman Jr sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Goodman Jr closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Griffin successfully pulls guard.
Griffin tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Griffin is working hard here to advance position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Griffin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Goodman Jr doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Goodman Jr manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Griffin holds on and takes a little breather.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Griffin wants to control but Goodman Jr postures up.
Griffin is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Goodman Jr is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Goodman Jr happy to just control the position for now.
Griffin looking for a sweep but Goodman Jr has passed into full mount! Oh no!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Griffin wants to control but Goodman Jr is having none of it.

Griffin regains half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Griffin is refusing to be controlled, as Goodman Jr sits in half guard.
Griffin wants to get back to full guard but Goodman Jr has mounted him!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Saul Goodman Jr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Goodman Jr scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Griffin kicks off Goodman Jr and gets to his feet.
Griffin swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Goodman Jr rushes Griffin and presses him up against the cage.

Griffin decides to pull guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Griffin will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Griffin wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Saul Goodman Jr has got the better of the ground game so far.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Goodman Jr looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Griffin is fending him off so far but Goodman Jr persists. Nope, Griffin circles away and we're back to standing.
Griffin quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Goodman Jr shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Griffin but Griffin pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Goodman Jr takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Goodman Jr escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Griffin looks to land a body kick but Goodman Jr moved away.
Goodman Jr steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Goodman Jr rushes Griffin and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Goodman Jr tries to land a knee to the head but Griffin blocks with his arms.
Griffin working hard to break the clinch.
Griffin wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Goodman Jr tries to pull guard but Griffin forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Danial Griffin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Saul Goodman Jr.
Goodman Jr is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Griffin fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Griffin has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Griffin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Goodman Jr has closed the distance and engaged Griffin in a clinch.
Goodman Jr is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Griffin is defending well.
Goodman Jr lands a left hand.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Griffin wants to stand up but Goodman Jr is controlling him.

Griffin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Goodman Jr's guard.

Griffin wants to control from the top but Goodman Jr keeps moving.
Griffin controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Danial Griffin.
I think Griffin has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
