PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lavern Koch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chase Scissors (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Lavern Koch has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lavern Koch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chase Scissors!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Reed Andrews and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Scissors clinches up with Koch and pushes him back against the cage.

Scissors gets control of Koch's arms and successfully pulls guard. Scissors will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Koch missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Scissors trying to strike off his back.
Scissors has his hands on Koch's head, controlling the position.
Koch really is a fat lump.
Scissors trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Koch is standing up over Scissors. Scissors looks to escape but Koch dives into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Scissors manages to work his way to half guard, despite Koch's best efforts.
Scissors keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Scissors is looking for a sweep. Koch is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Scissors is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Scissors pulls Koch in to control the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Scissors trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Scissors is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Scissors tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Scissors tries a head kick but it misses.

Scissors has Koch up against the cage in a clinch.
Koch dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Koch has Scissors pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Scissors manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Koch's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Scissors struggles to land a body shot inside as Koch controls his hands.
Koch is trying to break the clinch but Scissors is controlling him.
Koch is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Scissors tries to land a knee to the head but Koch blocks with his arms.

Scissors has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Koch uses from the top position.
Koch might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Scissors looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Scissors has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Koch is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Scissors wants to stand but Koch is controlling the position.
Scissors is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Scissors is looking to stand up but Koch isn't so interested in that idea.
Scissors looking to hit a scissor sweep but Koch is one step ahead there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Scissors wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Horrible takedown attempt by Koch or perhaps it was just good defense by Scissors, which made it look bad.

Scissors fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Koch to the ground. Scissors is now in Koch's guard.
Scissors is looking to stand up but Koch won't let him.
Scissors's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Koch trying to control the position.
Scissors not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Scissors trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Scissors sitting in guard here, content to control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Scissors shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Koch is trying to control but can't.
Scissors looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Koch looks like he's trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Scissors working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Koch has one foot on Scissors's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Koch fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Scissors looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Scissors is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Koch is trying to control but can't.
Still in half guard, Scissors seems content to control.

Scissors is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Chase Scissors has got the better of the ground game so far.

Scissors not doing much here.
Scissors is continuing to stall.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Koch has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Scissors is working away from the top position though.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lavern Koch. That's going to take a lot out of him.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The referee calls for Scissors to work.

Scissors has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Koch is trying to keep an underhook but Scissors manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Scissors has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Scissors is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Chase Scissors showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Scissors rushes Koch and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Scissors successfully pulls guard.
Koch in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Koch working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Scissors is pulling down on Koch's head to control his posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Koch throws a big right hand that misses.

Scissors is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Koch is aware though and is defending well.
Scissors has control of Koch's left arm, preventing Koch from doing any damage.
Koch throws a strike but Scissors rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Koch working a defensive guard but Scissors manages to pass into side control anyway.
Scissors tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Scissors tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Scissors has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Scissors working away.
Scissors moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Koch tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Scissors cracks Koch with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Scissors tries to move into full mount but can't pass Koch's legs.
Koch is looking for a sweep.
Scissors remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Koch is looking to regain half guard here but Scissors keeps moving and retains side control.
Scissors wants to stand but Koch has his arm trapped.
A lull in the action here.
You can see the frustration on Koch's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Scissors stands up.

Scissors gets a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Koch is trying to break the clinch but Scissors has him pressed against the cage.
Koch creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Scissors manages to pull guard.
Scissors is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Scissors is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Lavern Koch has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Chase Scissors is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Scissors tries to stand but can't do so whilst Koch controls his leg.

Chase Scissors comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Scissors has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
