PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Fred Alsop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Eugemia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fred Alsop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Eugemia!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Eugemia lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Alsop backs up against the cage.
Decent striking displayed by Eugemia there.
Eugemia has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Eugemia throws a low kick but Alsop avoids it.
Alsop is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Eugemia.
Eugemia throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Alsop cracks a nice hook into Eugemia's ribs.

Eugemia takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Some bone on bone action there as Eugemia checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Alsop fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Eugemia fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Alsop is out of range.
Alsop dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Alsop avoids the head kick by Eugemia.
Eugemia misses with a straight right.
A swing and a miss from Eugemia.
Eugemia connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Alsop's hands.
We've been hearing reports that Alsop has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Alsop wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

so Eugemia counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Eugemia is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Alsop is looking for a triangle here but Eugemia uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alsop looking for a guillotine here but Eugemia defends easily.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Alsop's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Eugemia connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Alsop scrambles back to his feet.

Let's hope that Eugemia has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Eugemia shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

and Alsop counters with a left and a right that hurts Eugemia! He wobbles and falls to the floor - he's in big trouble! Alsop jumps into full mount!

Eugemia sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Alsop looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Alsop prevents Eugemia from improving his position.
Eugemia seems to have recovered his senses.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Alsop wants to work for an arm triangle but Eugemia is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Eugemia has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Alsop is working away from the top position though.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to John Eugemia.
I've got Eugemia winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
