PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Elmer Holt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Giamarco Fuoco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elmer Holt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Giamarco Fuoco!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Russell Pearce and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fuoco decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Holt tries to kick Fuoco off but Fuoco keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Holt keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Fuoco is trying to control. Holt wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Fuoco wants to pass the guard but Holt is defending well.
Fuoco missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Holt pushes Fuoco off looking to stand but Fuoco dives back in and keeps control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Holt makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Fuoco drives through and clinches with Holt against the cage.
Holt is trying to drag Fuoco to the mat but Fuoco just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Fuoco pulls guard effortlessly.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fuoco looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Holt trying to control the position from guard on top but Fuoco is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Holt throwing strikes from guard but Fuoco blocks nicely.

Holt stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Fuoco feints and as Holt raises his hands in defense, Fuoco changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Holt manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Fuoco pulls Holt into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Holt postures up.
Holt is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Holt throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Fuoco utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Holt stands and steps away. Fuoco gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Holt is defended easily by Fuoco.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Fuoco manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Holt on his heels. He'll look to pass Holt's guard now, I'm sure.

Holt is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Holt could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Fuoco breaks from the clinch.
Fuoco pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Giamarco Fuoco seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Holt takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Fuoco fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fuoco misses with a jab, cross combination.
Holt tries to counter by clinching up but Fuoco breaks away and moves out of range.
Fuoco swings for the body but Holt moves out of range.
Holt tries for a takedown but Fuoco sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Elmer Holt. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fuoco tries to clinch but Holt moves out of range.
Holt tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Fuoco defends well and Holt ends up having to push Fuoco into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Despite the aggression on Fuoco's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Holt avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Holt seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Holt lands with a shot to the body.
Fuoco tries to clinch there but Holt circles away.

Fuoco drives through with a takedown into guard.

Holt wriggles free and stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Elmer Holt will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Fuoco wants to clinch up but Holt keeps it at a distance.

Fuoco feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Holt scrambles and gets back to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Holt looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Fuoco lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Holt circles away quickly and effectively.

Fuoco shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Holt's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Holt looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Holt is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Fuoco stands up from Holt's guard - Fuoco perhaps looking for a knockout.

Fuoco shoots in and gets a takedown into Holt's guard.

Holt pushes Fuoco off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Fuoco feints and as Holt raises his hands in defense, Fuoco changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fuoco must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Holt wants to get back to his feet but Fuoco is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Holt is looking for a triangle here but Fuoco uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Holt pushes Fuoco away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Fuoco gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Fuoco throwing strikes but Holt manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Fuoco tries to bench press Holt off him but Holt keeps the position.

Holt wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fuoco, who protects the arm well.
Fuoco is looking to regain half guard here but Holt keeps moving and retains side control.

Holt trying to control the action but Fuoco is working from the bottom.
Holt is really struggling to control Fuoco but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Fuoco tries to control but Holt manages to take his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Holt is hanging on to Fuoco's back as he tries to escape.
Fuoco trying to control but not successfully.
Fuoco is trying to stand back up.
Fuoco just trying to survive but Holt is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Holt tightening his grip on Fuoco, looking for the choke.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Fuoco shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Fuoco was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Holt explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Holt shoots in but no luck this time.
Fuoco is looking for the big counter here.

Holt has his feet on Fuoco's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Fuoco loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Holt throws his legs up looking for a submission but Fuoco uses it to pass to side control.
Fuoco misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Fuoco throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Fuoco trying to control the action but Holt is working from the bottom.
Holt gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Holt is staying active underneath Fuoco, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Holt looks like he's trying to stand up.
Fuoco trying to control from half guard but Holt is working away.
Holt moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Fuoco is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Holt manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Fuoco has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Holt regains guard immediately.

Fuoco decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Holt, up you get!
Fuoco takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Holt swats away the attempt to clinch by Fuoco.

Fuoco is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Holt's half guard.
Holt wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Holt is not content to let Fuoco control the position.
Holt wants to improve his position but Fuoco is controlling well.
Holt tries to kick Fuoco off but Fuoco keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Fuoco decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Fuoco tries to clinch there but Holt circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Fuoco looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Elmer Holt.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Holt, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
