PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pozar Pozar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pozar has chosen z Buta Wjeżdzam as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Curtis Henry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 26 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pozar Pozar!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Henry tries to close the distance and clinch but Pozar swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Henry definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Pozar fails with a takedown attempt.

Pozar fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Henry to the ground. Pozar is now in Henry's guard.
Henry wants to get back to his feet but Pozar passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Pozar connects with a nice short shot to Henry's temple.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pozar scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Pozar is looking to take a break and control but Henry is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Henry regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Pozar.
Pozar tries to free his leg and advance position but Henry is retaining full guard.
Pozar keeps trying to improve his position.
Pozar forces his way into half guard.
Henry on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Henry tries to get out of the position.
Pozar is looking to take a break and control but Henry is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pozar tries to pass the half guard into mount. Henry knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Pozar throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Pozar wants to work for an arm triangle but Henry is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pozar performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Henry keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Pozar is working for a kimura but Henry is defending it quite comfortably.

Pozar is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Henry defends it well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pozar controlling the action here.
Henry is looking to escape.
Pozar uses his free foot to push down on Henry's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Henry.
Pozar breaks from Henry's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Pozar throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Henry because Pozar loaded up on that one.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Pozar cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Pozar pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Pozar is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Henry is surviving well by controlling Pozar's body position as best he can.
A nice elbow there by Pozar.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pozar looking to control but Henry is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Henry takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Pozar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Henry defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Pozar.
Pozar controlling his opponent.
Pozar with the ground and pound from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pozar Pozar dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Pozar closes the distance and clinches up with Henry, looking for a takedown. Pozar pushes Henry against the cage but Henry circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Henry gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Henry tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Pozar tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Henry smiles and moves away.

Pozar drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Henry keeping moving, preventing Pozar from controlling successfully.
Pozar looking to pass the guard.

Pozar passes Henry's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Henry knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pozar on the ground.
Pozar wants to control but Henry is keeping him busy.
Pozar stops Henry from getting back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pozar throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Pozar looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Pozar landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Pozar is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Pozar in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Henry tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Pozar!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Pozar Pozar!
Pozar Pozar opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
In defeat, Curtis Henry stepped up to the mic, saying 'I will be back next time better than ever whooping some ass.... '.
