The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Briggs is defended easily by Joukahainen.
Briggs fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Briggs fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lucien Briggs. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Horrible takedown attempt by Briggs or perhaps it was just good defense by Joukahainen, which made it look bad.
Briggs shoots for a double leg takedown but Joukahainen sprawls well. He's pushed Briggs's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Joukahainen counters with a right hand to the body.
Briggs is breathing heavily.
Joukahainen scores with a crisp jab that stopped Briggs in his tracks.
It looks like Lucien Briggs has been cut.
Joukahainen throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Briggs was covering up waiting for the punch and Joukahainen finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Joukahainen passes into half guard.
Briggs might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Joukahainen is trying to work for a kimura but Briggs is defending well.

Briggs is refusing to be controlled, as Joukahainen sits in half guard.
Joukahainen wants to work for an arm triangle but Briggs is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Briggs on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Joukahainen scores with a big shot! Briggs's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Briggs! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
