PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kylo Ren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ross Gellar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ren comes to the cage accompanied by Kylo Ren Theme. Gellar has chosen Stray Cat Strut as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kylo Ren!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ross Gellar!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Daniel Franklin and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gellar has closed the distance and engaged Ren in a clinch.
Ren lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Ren lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Ren lands an uppercut.
Ren is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Gellar's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Ren has Gellar up against the cage in a clinch.
Ren lands a nice shot to the body.
A short body shot lands from Ren as the two fighters clinch.
Gellar has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Ren lands a nice shot to the body.
Ren holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Ren lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Ren throws a head punch that misses.
A left hand lands to the body for Ren.
Gellar lands a nice knee to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ren tries to work over Gellar's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Gellar breaks from the clinch.
Gellar on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Ren moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Ren lands with an overhand left.
Gellar shoots in looking for a takedown. Ren tries to sprawl out of it but Gellar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ren manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gellar buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Ren has a couple of punches blocked by Gellar.
Ren scores with a nice hook to the head.
A head punch on the inside from Ren fails to land.

Ren lands a right hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Gellar unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Gellar's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Ren closes the distance and clinches.
Ren swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Ren fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Ren tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Gellar blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Ren goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Gellar stalling in the clinch but Ren improves position.
Gellar is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Kylo Ren has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ross Gellar.

Gellar manages to break the clinch.
Gellar has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Ren finds it's way round the side to connect with Gellar's head.
Gellar moves out of range of the strikes.
Ren is breathing heavily.
Gellar lands a head kick!

Gellar drops his hands momentarily and Ren takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Gellar bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Gellar looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Gellar closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Gellar drags the fight down to the ground.

Gellar looking for a guillotine here but Ren defends easily.
Ren tries to free his leg and advance position but Gellar is retaining full guard.

Gellar looking to control.
Gellar lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Gellar controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Gellar trying to control the position from guard on top but Ren is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gellar missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kylo Ren dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Ren struggles to land a body shot inside as Gellar controls his hands.
Gellar manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Gellar fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Gellar jumps guard but Ren stands there with Gellar around his waist. Gellar gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Ren lands a hook to the side of the head.

Gellar manages to break the clinch.
Gellar uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ren.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ren scores with a jab.
Ross Gellar is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gellar looks for a takedown but Ren sprawls well.
Kylo Ren has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ross Gellar.
Gellar fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Gellar looks to land a combination but Ren avoids it well.
Ren throws a nice looking combination but Gellar bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gellar is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Ren lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Gellar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ren tries to avoid it but Gellar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ren to the ground. Ren escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Ren misses with a body punch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Gellar pulls guard.
Gellar throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Ren controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Ren knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gellar on the ground.
Gellar controls Ren momentarily but Ren frees himself.

Gellar throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Ren won't allow Gellar to get back to his feet.
Ren stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gellar swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Gellar tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ren defends well and Gellar ends up having to push Ren into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Ren looks to score with a jab to the body but Gellar is just out of range.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ren fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gellar manages to avoid it.
Ren lands with an overhand left.
Ren looks to land a right hand but Gellar moved out of range.
Ren stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ren wants it to stay on the feet.
Gellar tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ren sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gellar somewhat.
Horrible takedown attempt by Gellar or perhaps it was just good defense by Ren, which made it look bad.
Ren appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Ren lands a jab.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ren darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Gellar shoots in looking for a takedown. Ren tries to sprawl out of it but Gellar keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ren manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ren connects with a good right hand that stumbles Gellar. Gellar circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Gellar misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Gellar misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ren getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Kylo Ren seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ren slaps away a takedown attempt from Gellar, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Ren swings for the body but Gellar moves out of range.
Gellar walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Ren lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Ren waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Gellar.
Gellar will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Gellar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Gellar takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Gellar is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Ren pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Ren lands a left hand.
Gellar jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ren walks away with a smile on his face. Gellar gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Nice shot by Ren.
Ren cracks Gellar with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Gellar avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Gellar shoots in for a double leg but Ren sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ren lands with an overhand left.

Ren can't find room to land a body shot as Gellar controls the action.

Ren lands a shoulder strike.
Gellar tries to pull guard but Ren holds him up against the cage and eventually Gellar drops back down to his feet.
Gellar has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ren is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Ren.
Gellar jumps guard but Ren stands there with Gellar around his waist. Gellar gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Ren looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Gellar is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gellar keeping moving, preventing Ren from controlling successfully.

Ren got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gellar has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ren has managed to get both his arms back between Gellar's legs - danger averted.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kylo Ren showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ren, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Our winner, Kylo Ren, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
In defeat, Ross Gellar stepped up to the mic, saying 'I did okay, he just did better...'.
