PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Escobar De Vega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Proctor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Escobar De Vega!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michael Proctor!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De Vega tries to score a power double leg takedown but Proctor sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten De Vega somewhat.
De Vega avoids the head kick by Proctor.
De Vega lands a nice looking body kick.
De Vega changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Proctor tries to avoid it but De Vega manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Proctor to the ground. Proctor escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
De Vega lands with a thumping leg kick.
Proctor throws a lazy right hand but De Vega sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
De Vega scores with a three punch combo!
De Vega connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
De Vega goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
De Vega scores with a push kick.
Proctor sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
De Vega rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Proctor moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Proctor checks a leg kick.
De Vega misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Proctor swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

That's one minute gone in the round.

De Vega closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Proctor to the mat! Proctor manages to get full guard.
Proctor is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
De Vega working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Proctor looking for a sweep. Not yet Proctor, not yet.
De Vega is stalling in the full guard.
Proctor avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
De Vega is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
De Vega lands a couple of elbows.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells De Vega's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
De Vega stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Proctor swivels though and keeps the full guard.
De Vega throws a big elbow that misses.
De Vega stays in close to Proctor's body and controls the position.
Proctor pulls De Vega in close to prevent any damage.
De Vega throws a big right hand that misses.
De Vega trying to control but Proctor is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
De Vega throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Proctor slaps away a takedown attempt from De Vega, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Escobar De Vega. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Proctor blocks a low kick nicely.
De Vega sizes up Proctor with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
De Vega misses with a takedown attempt - Proctor sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
De Vega tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Proctor dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Proctor bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Escobar De Vega seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
De Vega lands a high kick!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
De Vega tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Proctor swivels and escapes.
Proctor goes for a high kick. It partially lands.


It looks like Escobar De Vega has been cut.
De Vega is looking to slow Proctor down with leg kicks.
Proctor takes a swing at De Vega's ribcage but misses.
De Vega throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Proctor lands a jab to De Vega's midsection.
De Vega is breathing heavily.
De Vega fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Proctor manages to avoid it.
De Vega throws a leg kick that is checked
and Proctor finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
De Vega throws a poor cross that misses

and Proctor counters with a head kick that drops De Vega to the mat! De Vega scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
Proctor misses with a hook. De Vega ducked under it nicely.
De Vega goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Proctor scores with the left hand. De Vega knows he should have avoided that one.
De Vega throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Proctor.
De Vega just misses with a punch to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Escobar De Vega will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Escobar De Vega's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


De Vega looks to land a left hand but Proctor moved out of range nicely.

De Vega misses with a body punch

and Proctor counters with a crisp right hand that drops De Vega! Proctor lets De Vega back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


De Vega is rocked!
De Vega shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Proctor counters with a massive hook, right on the button! He's out cold! Damn, that was naaaaaasty! Hopefully he'll be OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Michael Proctor!
An out of breath Michael Proctor thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
