PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Graig Buckner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Branko Teixeira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Teixeira is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Natiruts - Beija Flor. Branko Teixeira will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Graig Buckner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Branko Teixeira!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buckner throws a body shot but no joy.
Teixeira changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Buckner doesn't manage to clinch there - Teixeira circles away.
Teixeira tries a quick counter leg kick but Buckner is wise to it.

Buckner forces Teixeira back against the cage and clinches.
Buckner could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Buckner manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Teixeira thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Buckner knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Teixeira on the ground.
Buckner wants to stand and escape but Teixeira is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Teixeira stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Buckner swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Teixeira drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Teixeira jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Teixeira drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Teixeira jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Buckner seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Buckner has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Buckner has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Teixeira uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Buckner.
Teixeira flicks out a counter leg kick but Buckner steps away.
Buckner throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Buckner gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Teixeira.

Buckner lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Teixeira wants to improve his position but Buckner is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Buckner ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Teixeira moves away.
Teixeira only half commits to the counter leg kick.

Teixeira is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Buckner is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Buckner is working for an americana but Teixeira has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Buckner was thinking about the submission.

Teixeira is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Buckner defends well.
Teixeira can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Buckner controls the pace.

Teixeira has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Buckner can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Buckner controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Buckner distracts Teixeira with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Buckner stays in close to Teixeira's body and controls the position.

Teixeira has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Buckner should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Teixeira has tightened it up now! Buckner should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
