Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carmen Avery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Velazquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carmen Avery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jose Velazquez!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Velazquez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Avery looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Velazquez is trying to get an arm triangle but Avery is defending well.

Velazquez has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Velazquez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Avery sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Velazquez somewhat.
Avery appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Velazquez fails with the takedown.
A head kick misses from Velazquez.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Velazquez drives through and clinches with Avery against the cage.
Velazquez is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Carmen Avery has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Velazquez.

Avery is trying to control the position but Velazquez postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A little jabbing left from Velazquez on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Jose Velazquez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Velazquez tries for a takedown but Avery sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Avery checks a leg kick nicely.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Avery.

Velazquez rushes Avery and presses him up against the cage.
Velazquez wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Avery has him pressed against the cage.

Avery has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Velazquez uses from the top position.
Velazquez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Let's hope that Velazquez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Avery wants to get back to his feet.
Velazquez is controlling the pace.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Avery pushes Velazquez off looking to stand but Velazquez dives back in and keeps control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Velazquez dives in for a single leg takedown but Avery sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Avery tries to counter by clinching up but Velazquez breaks away and moves out of range.
Avery gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Velazquez counters with a series of strikes. Avery will be more careful next time no doubt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Velazquez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Avery swivels and escapes.
Velazquez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Velazquez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Avery but Avery pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Velazquez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Avery as he jumps to the side.

Velazquez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Avery pinned against the cage. Avery gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Velazquez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Avery walks away with a smile on his face. Velazquez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Avery throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Avery tries a head kick but it misses.

and Velazquez counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.


It looks like Carmen Avery has been cut.
Velazquez shoots in for a takedown but Avery shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Avery is looking for a counter combo.

Velazquez gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Avery fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Avery misses with some punches.
Velazquez can't break the clinch.
Avery fails to pull guard.
Avery gets underhooks to prevent Velazquez's takedown attempt.
Avery misses with the head strike.
Avery fails to pull guard.
Avery prevents Velazquez from breaking the clinch.
Avery tries to throw a body punch but Velazquez avoids it by throwing Avery back against the cage.

Velazquez is trying to break the clinch but Avery has him pressed against the cage.

Velazquez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Avery's guard.

Velazquez pushes down on Avery's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Velazquez passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Avery!
Velazquez unloads with some shots from mount but Avery bucks and avoids them well.

Velazquez throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Avery wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Velazquez.
Avery wants to try and get back to his feet.
Avery is looking to improve his position but Velazquez isn't that keen on the idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Velazquez throwing strikes here but Avery is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Jose Velazquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Avery tries to land a front kick but Velazquez steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Velazquez misses with an elbow over the top.

Avery has Velazquez pressed against the cage, preventing Velazquez from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Avery is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Velazquez stands and steps away. Avery gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Avery tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Velazquez just stands there and leans against the cage.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Avery tries to clinch up but Velazquez circles away and keeps his distance.

Velazquez shoots in and drives through. Avery sprawls well.
Velazquez goes for a double leg but Avery avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Avery continues to drive forward.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

As Velazquez looks to move away, Avery throws a big counter combo but Velazquez just gets out of the way.
Velazquez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Avery is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Velazquez.
Velazquez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Avery closes this distance looking for a takedown but Velazquez circles away.
Velazquez throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Avery stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Velazquez closes the distance and clinches up with Avery, looking for a takedown. Velazquez pushes Avery against the cage but Avery circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Avery feinted with a counter takedown.
Velazquez slips under a jab.

Avery keeps control of Velazquez as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Jose Velazquez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Velazquez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
