PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Malcom Wheeler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Malcom Wheeler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Seu Braga and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sanchez takes the fight into the clinch.

Sanchez gets control of Wheeler's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sanchez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Wheeler's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Sanchez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Sanchez looking for a sweep. Not yet Sanchez, not yet.
Sanchez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Wheeler seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez pulls Wheeler in close to prevent any damage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
David Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Wheeler counters by moving into the clinch.

Sanchez turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Sanchez manages to end up in side control.

Wheeler tries to lock up and control but Sanchez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Wheeler holds on to Sanchez as tight as he can, avoiding damage.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sanchez misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Wheeler tries to lock up and control but Sanchez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sanchez unloads with some shots from mount but Wheeler bucks and avoids them well.
Sanchez blocks Wheeler's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Sanchez goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Wheeler turns into him and now he's in Sanchez's guard.
Wheeler is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sanchez wants to sweep but no luck.
Wheeler is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Sanchez dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Wheeler shoots in for a takedown but Sanchez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Wheeler is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sanchez defends well.

Sanchez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wheeler has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sanchez has managed to get both his arms back between Wheeler's legs - danger averted.

Sanchez stands up and waves to Wheeler to follow him.

Wheeler fails with an attempt to clinch.

Sanchez has taken the fight to the clinch.

Sanchez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sanchez feints a jab promting Wheeler to slip. Sanchez then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Wheeler slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.


It looks like Malcom Wheeler has been cut.

Wheeler moves into the clinch successfully.

Sanchez manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Sanchez has his hands on Wheeler's head, controlling the position.
Wheeler controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Wheeler drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wheeler jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Sanchez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sanchez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Wheeler controls the pace.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
David Sanchez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Sanchez rushes Wheeler and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Sanchez turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Sanchez manages to end up in side control.

Sanchez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wheeler does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Sanchez decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Wheeler half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Sanchez dives in and scores a takedown into Wheeler's guard.
Sanchez is breathing heavily.
Sanchez looking to sit in guard and control but Wheeler gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Wheeler has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Sanchez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Sanchez has Wheeler pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Sanchez pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Wheeler tumbling to the mat - Sanchez dives into Wheeler's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Sanchez wants the takedown. Wheeler is fighting it off but Sanchez persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Wheeler's guard against the cage.

Wheeler controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Sanchez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wheeler gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sanchez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Wheeler is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

David Sanchez is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Sanchez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
