PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Little Rick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Noel Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Noel Diaz was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Little Rick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Noel Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Jonathan Paton and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice body punch from Diaz.
Rick doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Diaz counters with a lovely shot to the body.

and Diaz counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Little Rick. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rick takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rick is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Diaz tries to get to full guard but Rick has control of the leg.
Rick is pressing down on Diaz's thigh, looking to free his foot. Diaz is holding on for now.
Diaz is looking for a sweep. Rick is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Diaz is pressing down on Rick's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Diaz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rick gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Diaz can't keep his opponent in guard - Rick advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Rick is looking for a kimura here.

Rick is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Diaz sees it coming and defends easily.
Diaz is looking to control Rick's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Diaz avoid being mounted?

Diaz is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rick pulls his head out easily.
Diaz looks winded!

Rick is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Diaz defends it well.

Rick is controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rick is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Rick moves nicely into side control.

Rick working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Diaz can't do much from the bottom here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rick works to advance to full mount. Diaz defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Diaz tries to reverse the position but Rick maintains control.

Rick is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Diaz can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Rick avoids the attempt from Diaz to control.

Rick looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Diaz has given up his back here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Diaz tries to break free.

Rick has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Diaz has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Little Rick dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Rick closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Diaz's guard.
Rick advances to half guard.
Rick takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Diaz looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Rick looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rick is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Rick seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Diaz for as long as he can get away with.
Rick is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Diaz can do to turn this around?

Rick wants to work for an arm triangle but Diaz is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Rick looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Diaz trying to hold on to Rick's head to control him but Rick postures up.

Rick has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Diaz defend it? Rick steps over the head and cranks it - Diaz is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Rick!
