PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between HooPee Peteri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peteri comes to the cage accompanied by Rammstein - Pussy. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, HooPee Peteri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Antonio Alvarez!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Tarja Halkonen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez fails with a takedown attempt.
Alvarez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Peteri tries to clinch but Alvarez moves out of range.
Alvarez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Alvarez looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Peteri!
Peteri regains half guard.
Peteri trying to hold on to Alvarez's head to control him but Alvarez postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Still in half guard, Alvarez seems content to control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Peteri is looking for a triangle but Alvarez pushes his legs off easily.

Peteri has his foot on Alvarez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Alvarez works his way back into a safe position though.
Peteri is breathing heavily.
Alvarez wants to pass the guard but Peteri is keeping the position.
Peteri lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Alvarez!
Peteri can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Alvarez is looking to escape.
Alvarez bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Peteri isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Alvarez stacks Peteri on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Alvarez!

Alvarez decides to stand up, so the ref orders Peteri to his feet.
Alvarez throws a nice looking combination but Peteri bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Peteri is looking to clinch.

Peteri feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Alvarez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Alvarez manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Peteri has given up his back here.
Alvarez controls the position.
Peteri tries to roll but Alvarez sticks to his back.
Peteri turns into Alvarez and is now in his guard.
Alvarez pulls Peteri in close to prevent any damage.
Peteri chips away with some ground and pound.
Peteri stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alvarez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Peteri with a flurry of punches that miss.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that HooPee Peteri will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Alvarez defending well as Peteri loads up on a big left hand.
Alvarez has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Peteri has his takedown stuffed

and Alvarez counters with a takedown into side control.
Peteri is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Alvarez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Peteri can't do much from the bottom here.
Alvarez in side control lands a decent elbow.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Alvarez landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Peteri can't do much from the bottom here.

Alvarez stands up and beckons Peteri to his feet.
Alvarez swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

so Peteri counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Peteri pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Alvarez is keeping the position for now.
Peteri loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Alvarez is looking for a triangle but Peteri pushes his legs off easily.

Peteri throwing strikes but missing.
Peteri wants to control from the top but Alvarez keeps moving.

Alvarez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Peteri gets to his feet. Alvarez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Alvarez throws a wild body kick that Peteri sees coming a mile off.
Alvarez circles away from the clinch attempt.
Alvarez darts in trying to clinch
and Peteri counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Alvarez is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Peteri throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Alvarez counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Peteri wants to improve his position but Alvarez is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Peteri trying to hold on to Alvarez's head to control him but Alvarez postures up.
Peteri landing small, sideways elbows.

Alvarez with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Peteri tries to get to full guard but Alvarez has control of the leg.
Alvarez looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Alvarez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Peteri swivels and escapes.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Peteri tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Alvarez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Peteri won't be happy with that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Antonio Alvarez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Peteri throws a nice looking combination but Alvarez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Alvarez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Peteri looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Alvarez is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Peteri doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Alvarez.
Peteri is not content to let Alvarez control the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Alvarez wants to get back to his feet.
Alvarez is looking to take a break and control but Peteri is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Peteri is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Alvarez pulls his head out easily.
Peteri strikes from the bottom but Alvarez passes into mount!
Peteri tries to reverse the position but Alvarez maintains control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Alvarez controlling from mount.
Alvarez avoids the attempt from Peteri to control.
Alvarez putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Peteri looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
I really don't envy Peteri right now.

Alvarez is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Peteri has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Alvarez is trying to stick to Peteri's back but Peteri is turning into Alvarez. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Alvarez's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Peteri.

Alvarez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Alvarez wants to stand but Peteri is controlling the position.
Peteri wants to pass the guard but Alvarez is keeping the position.
Alvarez keeping moving, preventing Peteri from controlling successfully.

Peteri drops back, looking for a kneebar! Alvarez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Alvarez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Alvarez!

Alvarez decides to stand back up. Alvarez steps back and let's Peteri get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Some wild striking there from Peteri.
Alvarez throws a head kick but Peteri moves out of range.
Peteri throws a sloppy head kick and Alvarez moves out of range easily.

Alvarez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Alvarez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Peteri swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Peteri is in a horrible position here. Alvarez smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Peteri wants to hold on but Alvarez pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Antonio Alvarez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Alvarez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
