PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Touko Unikeko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Unikeko has chosen Gesaffelstein - Opr as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gabriel Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Touko Unikeko!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Unikeko takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Rua will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Unikeko tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Both fighters circling a little - Rua finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Rua fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Rua misses with a body kick.
Rua throws a body punch but Unikeko moves out of range.
Unikeko tries to clinch but Rua is having none of it.
Rua is looking to chop away at Unikeko's legs.
Unikeko on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Rua forces Unikeko back against the cage and clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Unikeko lands a shoulder strike.
Come on Unikeko - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Unikeko jumps guard and drags Rua to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Rua tries to free his leg and advance position but Unikeko is retaining full guard.

Unikeko wants to stand up but Rua is controlling him.

Unikeko is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rua passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Rua wants to control but Unikeko is keeping him busy.

Both fighters take a look at the clock.

Unikeko is not content to let Rua control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rua looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Unikeko is trying to control Rua's posture but Rua avoids it.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Unikeko is trying to escape the position but Rua is controlling the position.
Unikeko defending against the ground and pound.
Unikeko is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Rua's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Unikeko has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rua is working away from the top position though.

Rua looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Unikeko has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rua is working away from the top position though.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gabriel Rua dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Unikeko tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rua manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Rua tries a body shot but Unikeko blocks it.

Unikeko pulls guard effortlessly.
Rua wants to pass the guard but Unikeko is keeping the position.

Rua wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Unikeko, who protects the arm well.

Rua wants to lay and pray for a moment but Unikeko keeps working.

Rua is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Unikeko has escaped the position, nice work there.
Unikeko is trying to control Rua's posture but Rua avoids it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Unikeko might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rua haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gabriel Rua will probably get the nod.
That's time! Rua's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Rua fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Unikeko checks it well.

Rua swings for the body but Unikeko moves out of range.

Rua stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Unikeko has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Rua.

Good leg kick by Rua there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Unikeko's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Rua feints and then cracks Unikeko's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Unikeko down.
Gabriel Rua is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Rua fails to land with a series of punches.

Unikeko takes the fight into the clinch.
Rua throws a head punch that misses.
Rua scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Gabriel Rua has scored more points in the clinch so far.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Rua is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Unikeko can do to turn this around?

Unikeko jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rua walks away with a smile on his face. Unikeko gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Rua moves into range and clinches up with Unikeko.

Gabriel Rua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Touko Unikeko.

Unikeko sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rua's guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rua, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
