PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Heath Slater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Heath Slater!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brandon Brown!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Slater stuffs the takedown.
Slater throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Brown unleashes a big counter combination but Slater bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Brown fails with a takedown attempt.
Slater is looking to counter the offense by Brown and move into the clinch.
Brown throws a right hand that Slater ducks under and follows up with a left that Slater also avoids with ease.
Nice sprawl there from Brown as Slater shoots in.

Slater jumps into guard, dragging Brown to the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slater wants to sweep but no luck.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brown got a little sloppy there for a moment and Slater has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Brown has managed to get both his arms back between Slater's legs - danger averted.

Slater working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Brown doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Brown manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Brown must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Brown works over Slater with some ground and pound from guard.

Slater manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Brown manages to get himself to full guard.

Brown really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Slater. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Brown drives through and clinches with Slater against the cage.

Brown manages to break the clinch.
Brown throws a body shot but no joy.

Slater jumps guard.
Brown stops Slater from standing up.
Brown chips away with some ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Slater has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Brown has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Heath Slater will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Brandon Brown showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Oh Slater is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Brown is standing up over Slater. Slater looks to escape but Brown dives into side control.
Slater takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Slater takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Brown stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Brown moves into the clinch.

Brown turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Brown manages to end up in side control.
Slater wants to get back to his feet but Brown is dominant here and he's now got Slater's back!
What can Slater do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Brown can do anything to dispel that myth.
Brown bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Slater's guard.

Slater looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Brown has picked Slater up and slammed him! Slater can't keep hold of the triangle and Brown manages to pass to side control!

A left hand lands to the body for Brown.
Slater is trying to drag Brown to the mat but Brown just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Brandon Brown seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Brown manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Brandon Brown comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Brown has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
