PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Connor Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kostya Tszyu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tszyu is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Badstreet Atlanta Ga. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Connor Jackson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kostya Tszyu!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Alec Ball.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tszyu uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Jackson.
Jackson blocks a jab.
Jackson tries a head kick but it misses.
Tszyu sizes up Jackson with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Jackson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Tszyu.
Jackson misses with a few strikes there.
Tszyu lands a jab to the nose.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Tszyu, as that shot connected.
Tszyu throws a series of punches but Jackson moves out of range.
Jackson drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Jackson is rocked!
Jackson swings for the body but Tszyu moves out of range.
Oh Jackson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Tszyu on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Jackson seems to have got his legs back now.
Tszyu throws the left hand but Jackson avoids the punch easily.
The crowd cheers as Jackson lands an impressive looking overhand right. Tszyu doesn't seem phased though.
Tszyu lands a left and a right that sends Jackson crashing to the canvas! Tszyu dives into mount looking to finish!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jackson is trying desperately to improve position.

Tszyu looking for a guillotine from mount but Jackson is having none of it.

Tszyu lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tszyu trying to control but Jackson is having none of it.

Tszyu with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Tszyu can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jackson is looking to escape.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Jackson is bucking up trying to escape but Tszyu cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Jackson manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Tszyu winds up and cracks Jackson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Jackson is breathing heavily.

Well, if Tszyu is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Tszyu is nestled in close to Jackson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Tszyu wants to take a breather but Jackson is having none of it.
Tszyu prevents Jackson from standing back up.
Jackson is looking for a sweep. Tszyu is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Tszyu is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Jackson is not content to let Tszyu control the position.
Tszyu might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jackson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Tszyu drops an elbow to the side of Jackson's head.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jackson is looking for a sweep. Tszyu is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Tszyu misses with a wild combination.
Tszyu swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Jackson.
Tszyu dips to his left and cracks Jackson with an uppercut!
Tszyu throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Jackson on the side of the head.

Connor Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jackson drops his hands momentarily. Tszyu doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Jackson staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Jackson doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Kostya Tszyu! Kostya Tszyu retains his lightweight title!
