PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Robert Palya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Ocheda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Robert Palya had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 171.5lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Robert Palya!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Diego Ocheda!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Lou da Vinci and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ocheda misses with an uppercut. Palya saw that one coming.
As Ocheda tries to get set, Palya tries to push him back and clinch up but Ocheda manages to avoid the attempt.
Ocheda attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Palya tries to clinch up but Ocheda circles away and keeps his distance.

Ocheda moves into the clinch.

Ocheda manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Palya wants to control from the top but Ocheda keeps moving.
Palya has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Palya is really struggling to control Ocheda but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Palya throws an elbow that misses. Ocheda uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Palya's guard. Nice move by Ocheda!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ocheda is in close to Palya's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Palya has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ocheda content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Ocheda got a little sloppy there for a moment and Palya has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ocheda has managed to get both his arms back between Palya's legs - danger averted.
Ocheda is looking to work some ground and pound but Palya has wrist control.

Ocheda is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Palya can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ocheda controls the pace.
Ocheda wants to stand but Palya is controlling his posture from full guard.

Ocheda keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Palya's head.

Palya had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ocheda defends it easily.
Ocheda stands up over Palya, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Palya escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ocheda gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Palya has a closed guard, preventing Ocheda from standing up.
Ocheda wants to pass the guard but Palya is keeping the position.
Ocheda is looking to stand up but Palya won't let him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Palya has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ocheda can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Ocheda trying to control the position from guard on top but Palya is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ocheda with a flurry of punches that miss.
Ocheda controls from within his opponent's guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Ocheda fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Palya, pushing him back against the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ocheda manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Palya stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ocheda swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Palya trying to control but Ocheda is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diego Ocheda dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Palya is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ocheda doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Palya.

We've been informed that Ocheda has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Palya seems to be looking for submissions.
Ocheda wants to get back to his feet.
Palya is keen to just control but Ocheda is a slippery customer.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Palya is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ocheda is just riding it out for now. Palya eventually gives up the hold.
Palya is just content to waste time from the top position. Ocheda takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Ocheda looking to hit a scissor sweep but Palya is one step ahead there.
Ocheda has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ocheda lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ocheda chips away with some ground and pound.
Ocheda trying to control the position from guard on top but Palya is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ocheda looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Ocheda seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Palya does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diego Ocheda showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Ocheda's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Palya tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ocheda swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Palya keeps the fight on the outside.

Palya drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ocheda manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Palya has Ocheda in his guard.

Palya is not content to let Ocheda control the position.

Palya is refusing to be controlled, as Ocheda sits in half guard.

Palya is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ocheda pulls his head out easily.
Ocheda is looking to take a break and control but Palya is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Ocheda lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Ocheda wants to get back to his feet.

Palya preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Ocheda trying to mount his opponent but Palya defends it.
Ocheda wants to take a breather but Palya is having none of it.
Palya is looking to control Ocheda's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Palya avoid being mounted?

Ocheda tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.

Ocheda is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Palya to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Palya shrugs it off.

Ocheda looking to isolate an arm here. Palya doesn't see it coming and as Ocheda extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Ocheda!
