PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Vovan Klizma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Peterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Vovan Klizma has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Vovan Klizma seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vovan Klizma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Max Peterson!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Viktor Lagutenko and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Klizma, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Peterson shoots in for a takedown but Klizma shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Peterson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Klizma appears to be looking for a big counter.
Peterson has a takedown stuffed.
Vovan Klizma has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Max Peterson.
Klizma avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Klizma throws a head kick that misses.
Peterson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Peterson darts in looking for a takedown but Klizma gets double underhooks and turns Peterson into the cage.
Peterson tries to clinch up but Klizma circles away and keeps his distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Peterson tries to sprawl but Klizma drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Klizma knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Peterson on the ground.
Klizma tries to pass the half guard into mount. Peterson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Klizma is breathing heavily.
Peterson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Klizma seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Peterson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Klizma is thwarting Peterson's attempts to control the position.
Peterson is trying is best to control the position here.
Klizma wants to control but Peterson is keeping him busy.
Peterson manages to get to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Peterson wants to get back to his feet but Klizma is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Klizma tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Peterson defends well and Klizma ends up having to push Peterson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Klizma tries to close the distance and clinch but Peterson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Despite the aggression on Peterson's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Peterson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Peterson lands in his opponent's guard.
Peterson pushing down on Klizma's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Peterson is taking a breather. Klizma says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Peterson is trying to work for a kimura but Klizma is defending well.
Peterson drops an elbow to the side of Klizma's head.
Peterson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Klizma does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Klizma is trying to stand up here but Peterson is controlling him well.
Peterson with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Peterson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Ground and pound from Peterson.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Peterson lands with a punch from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Peterson dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Peterson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Klizma has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Peterson is on him like a limpet, forcing Klizma back against the cage.
Peterson misses with a knee to the head.
Peterson is working for takedown but Klizma is calmly controlling the position for now.
Peterson swings wildly with an uppercut but Klizma uses good head movement to avoid it.
Peterson is trying to pull guard but Klizma has him pressed against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Klizma's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Peterson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Klizma pulls his leg out and moves away.
Vovan Klizma has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Max Peterson.
Peterson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Klizma sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Peterson somewhat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters circle momentarily. Klizma darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Peterson leaves Klizma with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Klizma checks a leg kick.
Peterson looks for the body kick but Klizma saw that one coming.
Klizma feinted with a counter takedown.
Klizma has been working on his balance at The Grind - $700, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Peterson.
Klizma tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Peterson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Klizma.

Peterson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Peterson lands in his opponent's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Peterson wanted to stand there but Klizma had control of the position.
Peterson pushes down on Klizma's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Still in half guard, Peterson seems content to control.
Peterson throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Nice strikes from Peterson there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Peterson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Klizma's head.

Let's hope that Peterson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Peterson dives in and scores a takedown into Klizma's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Peterson looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Peterson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Klizma's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Peterson is working Klizma over with some ground and pound from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Peterson is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Klizma will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Peterson is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Klizma is trying to escape and Peterson transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Klizma is forced to tap! Nice work there by Peterson! Very nice indeed!
