Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Alex Rivera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Weffart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Weffart is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Gay Bar - Electric 6. Andrew Weffart will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Rivera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andrew Weffart!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Paulo Santos and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weffart tries to clinch up.
Rivera avoids the head kick by Weffart.
Rivera seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Weffart dodges the punch combination from Rivera.

Weffart gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Rivera gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Rivera in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Weffart pulls Rivera in close to prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Weffart keeping moving, preventing Rivera from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Weffart looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Rivera postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rivera pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Weffart is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rivera postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rivera tries to stand but Weffart is controlling from the bottom.

Rivera avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Rivera throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Weffart works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Rivera throws a big right hand that misses.
Rivera trying to control but Weffart is working from the bottom.
Weffart has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Sentinel Sparring . Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Weffart working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rivera doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rivera manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Rivera throws an elbow that misses. Weffart uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rivera's guard. Nice move by Weffart!

Rivera wants to stand and escape but Weffart is having none of it.
Weffart wants to control from the top but Rivera keeps moving.

Rivera seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Weffart postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Weffart is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Rivera pulls Weffart in close to prevent any damage.
Rivera bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Weffart's guard.

Rivera seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Rivera scoring with some ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rivera with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rivera is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Rivera knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Weffart on the ground.
Rivera is in close to Weffart's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Weffart controls Rivera momentarily but Rivera frees himself.

Weffart working for a triangle but Rivera defends it easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Weffart utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Alex Rivera will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Rivera shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Weffart manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Weffart looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Rivera has picked Weffart up and slammed him! Weffart can't keep hold of the triangle and Rivera manages to pass to side control!
Rivera is looking to take a break and control but Weffart is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ground and pound from Rivera seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Rivera is staying tight to Weffart's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Weffart on the wrong end of some ground and pound.


Weffart is rocked!

Rivera tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rivera has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Weffart is still in real trouble! Can Rivera finish him?
Weffart takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Rivera cracks Weffart with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Rivera immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Weffart is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Rivera!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alex Rivera!
