Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Morten Gunnarsson !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robert The Sponge!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Sponge fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Gunnarsson misses with a double jab.
Gunnarsson stuffs the takedown attempt from The Sponge. The Sponge gets slowly back to his feet.
The Sponge slaps away a takedown attempt from Gunnarsson , before circling back to the center of the mat.
Gunnarsson misses with a body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The Sponge shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gunnarsson sprawls well. Gunnarsson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. The Sponge gets slowly back to his feet.
Morten Gunnarsson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Robert The Sponge.
The Sponge looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Gunnarsson attempts a counter takedown but The Sponge avoids it well and moves away.

and The Sponge counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The Sponge working over Gunnarsson with some ground and pound. Gunnarsson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

The Sponge is working for a kimura but Gunnarsson is defending it quite comfortably.

Gunnarsson seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
The Sponge slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

The Sponge is trying to get an arm triangle but Gunnarsson is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gunnarsson takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Gunnarsson is looking for a sweep.

The Sponge is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gunnarsson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The Sponge tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no The Sponge has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Gunnarsson takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

The Sponge thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Gunnarsson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for The Sponge on the ground.
The Sponge wants to control but Gunnarsson is keeping him busy.
Gunnarsson is trying to improve his position.
The Sponge has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The Sponge advances nicely into full mount.

The Sponge moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Gunnarsson has worked his arm free - good work by Gunnarsson !

The Sponge working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The Sponge controls the position.

Gunnarsson gets back to half guard.
Gunnarsson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. The Sponge is working away from the top position though.
Gunnarsson wants to control the action here but instead The Sponge manages to pass to full mount!

The Sponge is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Gunnarsson can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Gunnarsson is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert The Sponge dominated that round.

The Sponge misses with a takedown attempt - Gunnarsson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

The Sponge gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The Sponge wants to get back to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The Sponge keeping moving, preventing Gunnarsson from controlling successfully.
Gunnarsson looking to sit in guard and control but The Sponge gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The Sponge slips nicely into half guard.

The Sponge seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Gunnarsson is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
