Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Martin Kampmann!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Shields!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Summer Carpenter and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kampmann moves into range and connects with a jab.
Kampmann connects with a leg kick. Shields looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Shields uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kampmann.
Kampmann throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
A nice leg kick lands there from Kampmann.
Kampmann misses with a wild combination.
Shields feints the counter takedown.
Kampmann will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kampmann throws a lazy uppercut

and Shields decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kampmann's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kampmann keeping moving, preventing Shields from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shields prevents Kampmann from getting back to his feet.
Shields with a flurry of punches that miss.
Shields throws a big right hand that misses.
Shields throws a strike but Kampmann rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Kampmann sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Shields's guard.
Shields is pressing down on Kampmann's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Kampmann wanted to stand there but Shields had control of the position.
Shields is controlling Kampmann's posture.
Kampmann wants to get up but he can't break Shields's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kampmann seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Shields has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Kampmann decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Shields, up you get!
Kampmann will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kampmann throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Shields counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Shields.
Shields trying to control but Kampmann is working from the bottom.
Shields postures up in Kampmann's guard and throws a big left but Kampmann blocks it.
Shields stands and throws Kampmann's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shields scoring with punches from side control.
Kampmann parries the strikes from Shields easily there. Shields is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Kampmann to escape.
Shields advances nicely into full mount.

Shields quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Shields but it's paid off an Kampmann is forced to tap! Nice work by Shields.
