Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Luke Shapiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Koi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shapiro comes to the cage accompanied by The Wackness. The crowd seem to be enjoying Koi's choice of entrance music: Cross Out the Eyes. Rob Koi has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Luke Shapiro's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Shapiro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rob Koi!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shapiro looks to score with a jab to the body but Koi is just out of range.
Shapiro misses with a hook.

Koi scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shapiro sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Shapiro won't allow Koi to pass to mount.
Shapiro tries to roll over but Koi keeps him under control.
Koi wants to stand but Shapiro has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Shapiro is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Koi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Shapiro is trying to control but can't.

Koi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Shapiro does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Shapiro is pressing down on Koi's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Shapiro is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Koi wants to control from the top but Shapiro keeps moving.

Koi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Koi swats away the attempt to clinch by Shapiro.

Koi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Horrible takedown by Koi or perhaps it was just good defense by Shapiro which made him look bad.
Shapiro's corner calls for a 1-2. Shapiro obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
No joy there for Shapiro, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Shapiro keeps Koi at a distance using the push kick.
Shapiro scores with a nice strike.
Koi doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Shapiro lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Shapiro's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Shapiro shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Shapiro was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Koi can't escape the position.
Koi is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Koi reaches up to try and control the position but Shapiro seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Koi rolls and tries to escape and now Shapiro has his back!
Shapiro doesn't have the hooks in and Koi manages to turn into his guard.

Shapiro escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Koi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Shapiro is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Luke Shapiro just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Shapiro scores with a decent looking hook.
Shapiro lands a glancing blow to the side of Koi's head.
Shapiro lands a two punch combo.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Shapiro closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Koi wants to improve his position but Shapiro is controlling well.
Still in half guard, Shapiro seems content to control.
Koi is trying to control but can't.
Shapiro stalling.
Koi is trying to get back to full guard.

Shapiro looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Koi wants to improve his position but Shapiro is controlling well.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Koi shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Koi shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Shapiro cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Shapiro counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Koi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Shapiro passes the guard and advances to mount!

Koi tries to buck Shapiro off but Shapiro takes his back!

Rob Koi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Shapiro has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Koi's body.

Koi has his foot on Shapiro's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shapiro works his way back into a safe position though.

Well Shapiro has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
