PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Blind Shaman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miguel Escrima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shaman comes to the cage accompanied by Shaman's Dream. Escrima has chosen Bamboleo as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Blind Shaman has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Blind Shaman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Miguel Escrima!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaman tries to land a leg kick but Escrima saw it coming and moves away.
Escrima throws out a counter right but Shaman avoids it with no problem.
Escrima looks to score with a jab to the body but Shaman is just out of range.
Shaman fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Escrima looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Escrima tries to clinch but Shaman is having none of it.
Escrima looks to land a right hand but Shaman moved out of range.
Shaman throwing a counter right hand but Escrima manages to avoid it.
Escrima displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Shaman throws out the jab.
Escrima pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Shaman back to the cage. Escrima follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Shaman misses with a lunging right hand
and Escrima counters with a straight right hand.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Shaman.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Escrima is looking for a sweep.

Shaman is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Escrima knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Shaman is trying to get an arm triangle but Escrima is defending well.

Escrima is looking to reverse the position.
Shaman wants to control but Escrima is keeping him busy.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Escrima tries to buck Shaman off but Shaman is having none of it.
Escrima is not content to let Shaman control the position.

Shaman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Shaman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Shaman thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Escrima gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Shaman is pressing down on Escrima's thigh, looking to free his foot. Escrima is holding on for now.
Shaman thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Escrima's head.
Shaman wants to control but Escrima is keeping him busy.

Escrima is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Shaman pulls his head out easily.
Shaman thows a huge punch but Escrima dodges it nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Escrima is refusing to be controlled, as Shaman sits in half guard.
Shaman perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shaman lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Shaman ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Escrima moves away.
Escrima throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Shaman is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Escrima can do to turn this around?

Escrima gets caught flat footed, as Shaman shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Shaman is looking to work some ground and pound but Escrima has wrist control.

Shaman looking to sit in guard and control but Escrima gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Shaman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Escrima got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shaman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Escrima has managed to get both his arms back between Shaman's legs - danger averted.

My spies in The Zoo inform me that Escrima has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
