PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Conor Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bartek Gor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bartek Gor is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Conor Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bartek Gor!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Smith, right into the meat.
Smith buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Smith cracks Gor with a right hand to the side of the head.

Gor dives in and scores a takedown into Smith's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Smith manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Gor fails to pull guard.

Smith breaks the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Smith fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Gor closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Smith quickly recovers to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith looks like he's trying to stand up.
Smith trying to control from the bottom.
Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Gor is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Smith is just riding it out for now. Gor eventually gives up the hold.

Gor is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Smith has managed to free his arm - good work.
Gor stalling.
Smith pushes Gor off looking to stand but Gor dives back in and keeps control.
Smith manages to get to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gor controls from within his opponent's guard.
It looks like Gor might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Smith is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Gor dives into side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gor working the body and head with strikes.
Smith can't do much from the bottom here.
Gor content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Smith can't do much from the bottom here.
The ground and pound from Gor seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Smith takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Smith tries to improve position but can't.

Smith is trying to control Gor's posture but Gor avoids it.
Gor scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Smith to see if he's OK.
Smith is looking to get back to his feet here but Gor is keeping cool and he's managed to take Smith's back.

Gor tightening his grip on Smith, looking for the choke.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
The referee is taking a good look at Smith as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Gor!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Smith gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gor to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Gor is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Smith is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Gor trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.
Gor wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gor connects with a couple of short punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gor seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Smith is wriggling around but Gor manages to pass to half guard.
Gor takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gor connects with a nice short shot to Smith's temple.
Gor throwing shots but Smith is blocking nicely.
Gor has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Smith wants to improve his position but Gor is controlling well.
Smith is concentrating on defense, preventing Gor from advancing position.

Smith looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Gor slips a nice elbow through Smith's hands, connecting with Smith's forehead.
Smith wants to get back to his feet.
Smith is trying to get back to full guard.

Gor is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Smith defends it well.
Gor performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gor looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smith with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Well, if Gor is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gor in particular looking to stall.
Gor seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Smith is trying to stand up here but Gor is controlling him well.

Gor prevents Smith from standing back up.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Smith punching from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smith throws a sloppy head kick

and Gor decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Smith's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gor is working Smith over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gor lands a couple of digs.
Smith tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Gor has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Gor postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bartek Gor showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Smith stuns Gor with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Gor drives through with a takedown into Smith's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Smith is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Gor dives into side control.

Smith really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

You can see the frustration on Smith's face as Gor controls the position.

Gor looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Smith wants to get back to his feet but Gor drags him back down.

Gor is chipping away with strikes.
Smith bucks up and tries to throw Gor off but instead Gor has got his back!

Gor gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Smith takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Gor really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Smith.

Can Smith hold on?! Gor is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Gor. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Smith trying to get back to his feet but Gor is in full control for now.

Gor patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

I really don't envy Smith right now.
Bartek Gor has got the better of the ground game so far.

Smith defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Smith is trapped and Gor is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Gor has good solid back control here.

Gor has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Smith! Can he survive? No! He's out! Gor gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.

In defeat, Conor Smith stepped up to the mic, saying 'Congratulation!'.
