PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kali Parlsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Connor Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Connor Davis will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kali Parlsh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Connor Davis!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parlsh fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Davis swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Parlsh tries to clinch there but Davis circles away.
Parlsh closes the distance but Davis moves to the side
and Davis counters with a one-two to the body.
Davis swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Parlsh takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Parlsh lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Davis circles away quickly and effectively.
Parlsh tries to close the distance and clinch up but Davis swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Davis swats away the attempt to clinch by Parlsh.
Despite the aggression on Davis's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
We've been hearing reports that Parlsh has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Parlsh tries to close the distance and clinch up but Davis swats him away and circles back towards the center.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Davis counters with a series of strikes. Parlsh will be more careful next time no doubt.
Davis doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Parlsh in particular looking to stall.

Parlsh thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Davis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Parlsh is working away from the top position though.
Davis might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Parlsh haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Parlsh will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Parlsh lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Parlsh uses his free foot to push down on Davis's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Davis.
Parlsh takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Parlsh has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Parlsh wants to control the pace but Davis is squirming around nicely.

Davis is bucking up trying to escape but Parlsh cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

so Parlsh counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Davis uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Parlsh is looking to clinch but Davis is avoiding it.
Parlsh is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Davis can do to turn this around?
Davis lands a jab-cross combination.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Davis fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Parlsh ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Davis lands a glancing blow to the side of Parlsh's head.
Parlsh shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Davis pinned against the cage. Davis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Davis scores with a one two! Parlsh had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Davis lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Connor Davis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Parlsh looking to score a takedown here. Davis is defending well but Parlsh drives through and ends up in Davis's guard.
Davis wants to sweep here but Parlsh controlling him for the moment.

Parlsh is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Davis is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Kali Parlsh overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Parlsh with shots to the head and body - Davis looks very uncomfortable down there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Davis's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Davis can do anything to dispel that myth.
Davis tries to hold on but Parlsh pushes him away.

Parlsh is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Davis to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Davis shrugs it off.

Parlsh looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Davis reaches up to try and control the position but Parlsh seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Davis rolls and tries to escape and now Parlsh has his back!
Parlsh has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Davis.

I really don't envy Davis right now.

Davis is trying to get back to his feet but Parlsh has full control of the position and if anything, Davis has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Parlsh looking to break Davis's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Davis remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Parlsh will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
