PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Stuart Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Orvin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Robert Orvin looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Stuart Head!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Robert Orvin!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Sam Margolis and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Head clinches up with Orvin and pushes him back against the cage.
Orvin looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Orvin looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Head escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Orvin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Orvin fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Head checks it well.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Head ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Head no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Head looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Orvin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Head takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Orvin has hold of Head's hands but Head slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Head has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Head connects with a nice short shot to Orvin's temple.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Head lands a nice short elbow.

Head is nestled in close to Orvin, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Head gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Head tries to land knees in the clinch but Orvin avoids the damage to the body.
Head is struggling to control the position.
Orvin is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Head's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Orvin seems to have recovered his senses.
Head jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Orvin walks away with a smile on his face. Head gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Head has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Head is pushing Orvin up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Head seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Head has Orvin pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Head pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Orvin tumbling to the mat - Head dives into Orvin's guard.
Orvin is looking to stand back up but Head counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Orvin.

Head moves into range and clinches up with Orvin.

Head working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Orvin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Orvin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Orvin wants to stand and escape but Head is having none of it.
Orvin has momentary wrist control but Head slips an elbow through the middle.
Head connects with a couple of short punches.
Head is working Orvin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Well Head has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
