Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Xander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robbie Owens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Xander might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Nice to Meet Me. Owens has chosen Justice - Gensis † as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Charlie Xander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Robbie Owens!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Valeri Chadov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Owens drives through and clinches with Xander against the cage.
Owens drops down looking for an ankle pick but Xander pulls his leg out and moves away.

Owens shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Owens showed some decent athleticism there.
Xander is looking to improve his position.

Xander is defending against the submission attempts here by Owens.
Xander has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Owens is working away from the top position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Owens is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Xander is staying active underneath Owens, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Owens is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Xander clinches up with Owens and pushes him back against the cage.
Xander drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Owens gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Owens decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Robbie Owens showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Owens shoots for a double leg takedown but Xander sprawls well. He's pushed Owens's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Owens drops back, looking for a kneebar! Xander looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Xander looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Xander!


Xander goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Owens has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Xander but great work by Owens.

Xander throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Owens escapes and throws Xander's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Owens. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

After the fight, Robbie Owens was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
In defeat, Charlie Xander stepped up to the mic, saying 'Robbie Owens was the better fighter tonight and deserved the win. I'll get back to my training and work my arse off until I get that gold.'.
