PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Arturo Alvarado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michal Maly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michal Maly told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Arturo Alvarado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Michal Maly!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Bart Greer and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maly misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A head kick misses from Maly.
Alvarado misses with a head kick.
Maly tries a head kick but it misses.
Alvarado changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Alvarado feints and then cracks Maly's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Maly down.
Michal Maly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maly takes a kick to the side of the head.

Maly shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Alvarado napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Alvarado manages to get back to half guard.
Alvarado is concentrating on defense, preventing Maly from advancing position.
Alvarado trying to hold on to Maly's head to control him but Maly postures up.
Alvarado is looking for a sweep. Maly is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alvarado is doing well to control the position and prevent Maly from advancing to side control.
Alvarado moves into full guard.
Alvarado seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Alvarado holds on and takes a little breather.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Maly wants to stand and escape but instead Alvarado has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Alvarado not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Alvarado drops back looking for a leg! Maly is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Maly manages to kick Alvarado off! Alvarado jumps back into Maly's guard.

Alvarado thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Alvarado loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Maly keeping moving, preventing Alvarado from controlling successfully.
Alvarado sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Maly's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Maly can do anything to dispel that myth.
Alvarado thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alvarado frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Alvarado punching from mount but Maly doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Alvarado throwing strikes here but Maly is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Alvarado trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Maly tries to reverse the position but Alvarado maintains control.

Alvarado working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Maly turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Alvarado off and cradles Maly's limp body as Alvarado celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Arturo Alvarado!
