Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vincenzo Calliente!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dan Harvey!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Alyssa Summers and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Calliente clinches up against the cage.
Calliente is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Calliente manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Harvey avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Calliente is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Calliente is looking to stand up but Harvey isn't so interested in that idea.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Harvey wants to stand and escape but Calliente is having none of it.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Calliente accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Harvey tries to land a front kick but Calliente steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Calliente fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Harvey, pushing him back against the cage.

Calliente manages to break the clinch.
Calliente pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Calliente comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Calliente shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Calliente showed some decent athleticism there.
Calliente is breathing heavily.
Harvey moves into full guard.

Harvey utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Calliente won't allow Harvey to sweep him here.

Calliente postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Harvey is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Calliente, into his guard.
Harvey sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Calliente's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Harvey slips a nice elbow through Calliente's hands, connecting with Calliente's forehead.
Harvey is looking to take a break and control but Calliente is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Calliente wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Harvey passes to side control.
Calliente is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Calliente wants to control but Harvey postures up.

Calliente changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Harvey looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Harvey rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Calliente moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Calliente feints and as Harvey raises his hands in defense, Calliente changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Harvey escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Calliente gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Well, if Calliente is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
