PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Morgan Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kucuk Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Morgan Reyes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kucuk Joe!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe stuffs the takedown.
Joe is trying to counter with his kicks.
Joe throws a nice looking combination but Reyes bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Reyes shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Joe defends it nicely.
Reyes avoids the head kick by Joe.
A quick step to the side and Reyes tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Joe closes the distance and lands a one-two.


It looks like Morgan Reyes has been cut.

Joe looking to score a takedown here. Reyes is defending well but Joe drives through and ends up in Reyes's guard.

Reyes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Joe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Joe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Joe is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Reyes is looking to stand up but Joe isn't so interested in that idea.

Reyes looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Joe puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Joe decides to stand and escape the position.
Reyes really is a fat lump.

Joe moves into the clinch.
Reyes has Joe pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Joe manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Morgan Reyes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Reyes jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Joe walks away with a smile on his face. Reyes gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Joe shoots in and bounces Reyes off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Joe is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Joe pushing down on Reyes's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Joe is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Joe decides to stand up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Reyes enables Joe to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Reyes manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Reyes has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Joe has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reyes tries to pull guard but Joe holds him up against the cage and eventually Reyes drops back down to his feet.
Reyes is breathing heavily.
Reyes keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Joe's efforts to push away.

Reyes pulls guard.
Reyes wants to sweep but no luck.
Reyes will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Reyes has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Joe is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Reyes.

Joe is trying to get an arm triangle but Reyes is defending well.

Joe advances to mount.

Reyes defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Joe.
Joe content just to control the position here.
Reyes swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kucuk Joe dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Morgan Reyes's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Joe tries to bum rush Reyes with a series of wild strikes but Reyes uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Reyes tries to clinch but Joe is having none of it.

Joe looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Reyes pushes Joe off and gets back to his feet.
Reyes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Joe pinned against the cage. Joe gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Joe throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Reyes tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Joe is in Reyes's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Joe stands and steps away. Reyes gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reyes misses with a takedown attempt - Joe sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Joe drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Joe has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Joe pushes down on Reyes's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Joe controlling the action here.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Joe lands a nice short elbow.
Joe with the ground and pound but Reyes uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Joe sitting in guard here, content to control.
Joe won't allow Reyes to get back to his feet.

Joe wants to pass the guard but Reyes is keeping the position.
Joe sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Joe stops Reyes from standing up.
Reyes tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Joe passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Joe working the body and head with strikes.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Joe just content to control the position.
Joe creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Reyes sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Joe working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Joe is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kucuk Joe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Reyes gets caught flat footed, as Joe shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Reyes being controlled here, momentarily.
Reyes wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Joe manages to pass to side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Joe decides to return to a standing position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Joe throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Reyes tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Joe is in Reyes's guard.
Joe slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Joe slips nicely into half guard.

Reyes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Reyes missing with punches from the bottom.
Joe content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Joe works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Joe thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Joe looking to ground and pound but Reyes is blocking nicely.

Reyes defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Joe.
Reyes is in all sorts of trouble here.

Reyes avoids a series of strikes thrown by Joe.

Joe is standing up, even though he is in mount.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Joe tries to bum rush Reyes with a series of wild strikes but Reyes uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Joe rushes Reyes and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Joe wants to break free but Reyes has control.
Reyes jumps guard but Joe turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Joe lands a takedown into guard.

Reyes has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Joe is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Reyes keeps control of Joe as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Joe is pressed up against the cage. Reyes has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Joe down to the mat. Joe avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Joe.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Reyes tries to control but Joe manages to take his back.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kucuk Joe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Joe has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
