PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Timothy Ray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Borwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Timothy Ray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Richard Borwell!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Borwell swats away the attempt to clinch by Ray.
Ray shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Borwell sprawls well. Borwell wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ray gets slowly back to his feet.
Ray tries to clinch but Borwell moves out of range.
Borwell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ray swivels and escapes.
As Borwell tries to get set, Ray tries to push him back and clinch up but Borwell manages to avoid the attempt.
Ray goes for a double leg but Borwell avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Borwell continues to drive forward.
Ray shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Borwell defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Timothy Ray. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Borwell throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Ray on the side of the head.

Borwell fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ray avoids it really well and circles away.
Ray throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Borwell shoots in looking for a takedown. Ray tries to sprawl out of it but Borwell keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ray manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Borwell counters with a thumping low kick.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
The referee is keeping an eye on Borwell - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Ray is trying to break the clinch but Borwell has him pressed against the cage.
Borwell tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ray smiles and moves away.
Ray shoots in and drives through. Borwell sprawls well.
Borwell is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Ray throws a body kick that misses
letting Borwell counter with a right hand.

Borwell moves into the clinch.
Ray wants a takedown.
Ray is breathing heavily.

Borwell is struggling to control the position.
Ray is looking to take this one to the mat.
Ray jumps guard but Borwell stands there with Ray around his waist. Ray gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Ray tries for a takedown but Borwell circles away easily

and Borwell counters by moving into the clinch.
Borwell drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ray gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Borwell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Borwell moves into the clinch successfully.

Borwell breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Ray tries to keep at a distance but Borwell has taken the fight into the clinch.
Borwell scores with a nice hook to the head.
Borwell stalling in the clinch.

Borwell gets control of Ray's arms and successfully pulls guard. Borwell will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Borwell pulls Ray in close to prevent any damage.

Borwell leaves Ray with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Borwell isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Ray stacks Borwell on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Ray!
Ray content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Borwell is not content to let Ray control the position.
Borwell can't do much from the bottom here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Borwell tries to hold on but Ray postures up.
Borwell tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Borwell wants to control but Ray is having none of it.

Ray tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Borwell defends well and Ray ends up having to push Borwell into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Borwell dives in for a single leg takedown but Ray sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Borwell fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ray, pushing him back against the cage.

Borwell's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ray tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Borwell manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Borwell is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Ray with a body shot.
Ray displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Borwell.
Ray throws a sloppy head kick and Borwell moves out of range easily.

Borwell is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Borwell has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ray is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Ray is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Borwell should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Ray takes a shot to the head.
Borwell has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ray after a bit of a struggle.

Ray tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Borwell lands an elbow that stopped Ray in his tracks for a moment.

Borwell's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Borwell has Ray pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ray manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Borwell ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Borwell no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Borwell is looking to stand up but Ray isn't so interested in that idea.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Borwell is pulling down on Ray's head. It's preventing any offense from Ray, at least for the moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Richard Borwell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Borwell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
