The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Jeff Smith and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson drives through and clinches with McDougal against the cage.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as McDougal takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
McDougal prevents a takedown attempt there.
McDougal tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Johnson's elbow.

Johnson manages to break the clinch.
Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch up but McDougal swats him away and circles back towards the center.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McDougal attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

Johnson takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McDougal but McDougal pushes him off and we're back to square one.

My spies in Gracie Barra Hilo inform me that McDougal has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

McDougal throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

McDougal is trying to trip Johnson. He has hold of a leg but Johnson is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. McDougal persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McDougal is looking to stand up but Johnson won't let him.

McDougal throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Johnson's waist but Johnson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McDougal off to one side.

and Johnson counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
McDougal drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Johnson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Johnson wants it to stay on the feet.
A head kick from Johnson lands but McDougal takes it in his stride.
Johnson drives through and clinches with McDougal against the cage.

McDougal pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Johnson drives through with a takedown into McDougal's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

McDougal is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
McDougal goes for a takedown in the clinch but Johnson prevents it.
Johnson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Johnson is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

McDougal has picked Johnson up - he's going for a ride! McDougal dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
McDougal is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Johnson sees it coming and defends easily.
McDougal wants to get back to his feet.
McDougal is keen to just control but Johnson is a slippery customer.
McDougal has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

McDougal is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Johnson is just riding it out for now. McDougal eventually gives up the hold.
McDougal is trying for a kimura here. Johnson looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! McDougal wins by kimura!
