Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Victor Melo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabi Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Victor Melo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz shoots in looking for a takedown. Melo tries to sprawl out of it but Cruz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Melo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Melo looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Cruz!
Cruz tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Melo punching from mount but Cruz doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Cruz tries to hold on but Melo pushes him away.
Cruz is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Melo scores with a couple of good head shots there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Melo wants to finish this one by submission but Cruz is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Melo.

Cruz is trying desperately to improve position.
Cruz wants to hold on but Melo pushes him away.
Cruz is squirming around, avoiding Melo's attempts to control the action.

Melo has control of Cruz's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Cruz regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Melo goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Cruz turns into him and now he's in Melo's guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Cruz moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Melo.

Cruz slips into full mount, dodging the strikes by Melo.

Cruz fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Cruz can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Melo is looking to escape.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cruz scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Cruz is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Melo can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Melo is just holding on here. Cruz manages to take his back.

and Cruz counters with a shoot takedown. Melo fights it but they end up in guard.
Melo controls Cruz momentarily but Cruz frees himself.
Melo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cruz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Melo, up you get!
Cruz shoots in for a double leg but Melo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Victor Melo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gabi Cruz.
Cruz closes the distance but Melo moves to the side
and Melo counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cruz throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Melo has gone for a leg lock! Cruz slips out almost immediately though and dives into Melo's guard.
Melo throws his legs up looking for a submission but Cruz uses it to pass to side control.

Melo doesn't succeed with the takedown
so Cruz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Cruz wants to control from the top but Melo keeps moving.
Cruz is pushing down on Melo's leg trying to pass to half guard. Melo is fighting to maintain full guard but Cruz has managed to sneak the leg through.

Cruz seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Cruz is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Gabi Cruz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Melo stands up over Cruz, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Melo slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Melo swings around for an armbar but Cruz sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Melo's guard.
Cruz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Melo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Melo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cruz manages to get himself to full guard.

Cruz can't keep his opponent in guard - Melo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Cruz is defending against the submission attempts here by Melo.
Melo stalling away here and it's allowed Cruz to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Melo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cruz swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cruz has his feet on Melo's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Melo avoids a kick to the body.
Melo takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Melo circles away from the clinch attempt
and Melo counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Cruz's guard now.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Melo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well Melo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
