PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Waldo Hensley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Desmond Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by skillet ~ monster . Desmond Nelson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Waldo Hensley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Desmond Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Dean Styles and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nelson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Hensley manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Hensley uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Nelson.

Nelson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hensley's guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Nelson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Nelson wants to pass the guard but Hensley is keeping the position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nelson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Hensley fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Nelson, pushing him back against the cage.
Hensley really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hensley keeps control of Nelson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Hensley lands a knee to the head.
A nice right hand lands inside from Hensley.
Hensley is pushing Nelson up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Hensley successfully pulls guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nelson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hensley wants to get back to his feet but Nelson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Nelson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hensley is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hensley has escaped and now he's on top!

Nelson wants to stand and escape but Hensley is having none of it.

Hensley gets to his feet. Nelson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Hensley shoots in and bounces Nelson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Nelson manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Hensley takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Hensley gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Nelson regains guard.

Nelson pushes Hensley off and gets back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hensley bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Nelson throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
We've been informed that Nelson has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Nelson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hensley.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Desmond Nelson will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Nelson fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Nelson ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Hensley drives through and clinches with Nelson against the cage.

Nelson is trying to control the position but Hensley postures up.
Hensley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Nelson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Nelson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hensley gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Nelson looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Hensley puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Hensley wants to work for an arm triangle but Nelson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nelson wants to get back to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hensley connects with a nice short shot to Nelson's temple.
Nelson is looking for a sweep. Hensley is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Nelson has a hand on Hensley's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Hensley takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Hensley controlling his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Hensley is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Nelson has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Nelson!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Desmond Nelson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Nelson jabs Hensley to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Nelson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hensley has his feet on Nelson's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Nelson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Nelson lands with a good body shot.

Nelson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hensley sprawls well initially but Nelson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Hensley kicks Nelson off and gets back to his feet.

Nelson dives in and scores a takedown into Hensley's guard.

Hensley has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Nelson is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hensley slows down the pace here.

Hensley ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hensley no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Nelson is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Hensley is wriggling around but Nelson manages to pass to half guard.
Nelson tries to pass to full mount but Hensley defends it.
Hensley knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nelson on the ground.

Nelson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Nelson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hensley!

Nelson goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Hensley is on top in guard.
Hensley postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hensley stopping the sweep attempt from Nelson.
Nelson wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Hensley is now in half guard.
Hensley lands with a punch from half guard.
Desmond Nelson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Nelson is looking to control Hensley's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Nelson avoid being mounted?

Hensley seems to be looking for submissions.

And that's the end of the fight!
Waldo Hensley showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Nelson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
