PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Nasma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and The er (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nasma comes to the cage accompanied by AWT - We Are One. The er will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Samuel Nasma!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, The er!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Jeff Smith and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nasma fails with a takedown attempt.
Nasma closes this distance looking for a takedown but er circles away.
Nasma fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Samuel Nasma. That's going to take a lot out of him.
er stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and er wants it to stay on the feet.

er looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Nasma wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and er manages to pass to side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

er wants to pass to mount but Nasma is defending the position.
Nasma has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with er in particular looking to stall.
er throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Nasma to regain full guard.

Nasma has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but er can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
er wants to control from the top but Nasma keeps moving.
er won't allow Nasma to sweep him here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nasma throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Nasma working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. er doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. er manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

er working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Nasma's head.

Nasma has his foot on er's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. er works his way back into a safe position though.

Nasma wants to sweep here but er controlling him for the moment.
er throws an elbow that misses. Nasma uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in er's guard. Nice move by Nasma!

Nasma thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if er can do anything to dispel that myth.
Nasma wants to control from the top but er keeps moving.

er is looking for a triangle but Nasma pushes his legs off easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
er is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Nasma is in close to er's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Nasma working some strikes from top position.
Nasma postures up.

Nasma stands and steps away. er gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Samuel Nasma seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nasma darts in looking for a takedown but er gets double underhooks and turns Nasma into the cage.
Nasma changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. er tries to avoid it but Nasma manages to keep hold of a leg and drag er to the ground. er escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
er misses with a kick to the body.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A lazy left from er finds it's target.

er shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nasma's guard.

Nasma pushes er off and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Samuel Nasma will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


er lands with a straight right. Nasma didn't see that one coming.
er displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nasma.
er throws a counter combo.
Nasma goes for a double leg but er avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as er continues to drive forward.

Nasma shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as er sprawls well. er wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nasma gets slowly back to his feet.

Nasma shoots in and drives through. er sprawls well.
er steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Nasma.

er throws a big right hand that misses.
Nasma might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Nasma looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! er has picked Nasma up and slammed him! Nasma can't keep hold of the triangle and er manages to pass to side control!

er has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

er is working Nasma over with some ground and pound from side control.
My spies in Cozad MMA Los Angeles inform me that er has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

er stands up.
Nasma shoots in looking for a takedown. er tries to sprawl out of it but Nasma keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. er manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
er throws a counter combo.

er gets a double leg takedown into Nasma's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
er sitting in guard here, content to control.

Nasma is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and er defends well.

er postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Nasma is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of er, into his guard.

Nasma connects with a couple of short punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nasma pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. er is keeping the position for now.
er is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Nasma working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Nasma pushes down on er's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Nasma slips a nice elbow through er's hands, connecting with er's forehead.
er blocking the ground and pound attempt from Nasma.
er is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Nasma scores with a couple of nice shots.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
er is staying active underneath Nasma, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
er tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
er looks like he's trying to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The er showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

er lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
er really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nasma. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
er is looking to stall here but Nasma recovers full guard.
Samuel Nasma overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
er has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Nasma is proving hard to escape from.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nasma looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but er is defending well. Nasma quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! er has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Nasma celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

The er was interviewed post fight and said 'no no NO NONO NO NO NO NO NO N O NO NO NO FUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKKKK'.
