Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jose Carbonquillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Scott Maxwell!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maxwell wants to clinch.
Carbonquillo moves out of range of the leg kick from Maxwell.

Maxwell forces Carbonquillo back against the cage and clinches.

Carbonquillo turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Carbonquillo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Maxwell knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Carbonquillo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Maxwell is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Maxwell tries to bench press Carbonquillo off him but Carbonquillo keeps the position.

You can see the frustration on Maxwell's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Maxwell is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Maxwell throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Maxwell closes the distance and pushes Carbonquillo back into the cage.
Maxwell stops a takedown attempt from Carbonquillo.

Carbonquillo tightens his grip and picks Maxwell up, before dumping him to the ground. Maxwell manages to land in guard.
Maxwell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Carbonquillo looking for submissions off his back.

Maxwell is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maxwell is working for a kimura but Carbonquillo is defending it quite comfortably.
Carbonquillo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Maxwell can do to turn this around?

Jose Carbonquillo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Carbonquillo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maxwell gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Maxwell is looking to work some ground and pound but Carbonquillo has wrist control.

Maxwell drops back looking for a leg! Carbonquillo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Carbonquillo manages to kick Maxwell off! Maxwell jumps back into Carbonquillo's guard.

Maxwell is sitting in close to Carbonquillo's body. Carbonquillo has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Maxwell is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Maxwell is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Carbonquillo.
