The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yamamoto slaps away a takedown attempt from Newbold, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Newbold shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Yamamoto is trying to defend but Newbold finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Newbold seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Newbold lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Newbold looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Yamamoto with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Yamamoto has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Newbold lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Yamamoto quite badly. Yamamoto pulls Newbold in close trying to recover. Newbold postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Yamamoto on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Yamamoto doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
