PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Santiago Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brendon Aberdeen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Palmer comes into the arena with GSP - Not Impressed blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Santiago Palmer!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brendon Aberdeen!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Jorge Garcia and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circling - Palmer throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Palmer slaps away a takedown attempt from Aberdeen, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Palmer throws out a loose jab but Aberdeen uses good head movement to avoid it.

Palmer closes the distance and clinches.
Aberdeen is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Palmer pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Aberdeen has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Palmer is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Santiago Palmer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brendon Aberdeen.
Palmer makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Palmer lands a nice uppercut.

Aberdeen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aberdeen takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Palmer throws a looping overhand right but Aberdeen ducks down to avoid it.
Palmer misses with a straight right.
Aberdeen darts in looking for a takedown but Palmer gets double underhooks and turns Aberdeen into the cage.

Palmer moves into the clinch.

Palmer slows down the pace here.
Aberdeen tries to pull guard but Palmer forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Palmer stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Palmer lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Aberdeen backwards.

Aberdeen pulls guard effortlessly.
Palmer has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Aberdeen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Palmer can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Aberdeen is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Palmer pushes down on Aberdeen's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Palmer is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Aberdeen defends it well.

Palmer prevents Aberdeen from improving his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aberdeen gets back to full guard.
Aberdeen is trying to control the position but Palmer postures up.
Palmer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Aberdeen is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Palmer is pushing down on Aberdeen's leg trying to pass to half guard. Aberdeen is fighting to maintain full guard but Palmer has managed to sneak the leg through.

Aberdeen wants to improve his position but Palmer is controlling well.
Aberdeen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Palmer is working away from the top position though.
Palmer looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Aberdeen is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Palmer pulls his head out easily.
Aberdeen tries to roll over but Palmer keeps him under control.
Palmer is trying to control the action in half guard but Aberdeen is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Aberdeen tries to kick Palmer off but Palmer keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Aberdeen shoots in for a takedown but Palmer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Palmer misses with a hook. Aberdeen ducked under it nicely.
And Aberdeen tries to counter it with a takedown but Palmer pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Aberdeen takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Aberdeen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Palmer sprawls well initially but Aberdeen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Aberdeen uses his free foot to push down on Palmer's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Palmer.
Palmer is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Aberdeen looking to control but Palmer is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Aberdeen misses with a head shot.
Palmer is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Aberdeen unloads with some shots from mount but Palmer bucks and avoids them well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Aberdeen takes an elbow to the temple.
Aberdeen tries to pull guard but Palmer forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Aberdeen fails to pull guard.
Palmer slows down the pace here.
Aberdeen manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Palmer tries to work over Aberdeen's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
A nice left hand lands by Palmer.

Palmer is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Aberdeen can do to turn this around?
Palmer has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Aberdeen has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Palmer avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Palmer stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Aberdeen bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Palmer lands a right hand that snaps the head of Aberdeen backwards.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Palmer creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Palmer is struggling to control the position.
Aberdeen is still on wobbly legs! Can Palmer finish him?
Aberdeen can't get the takedown.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Palmer is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

The referee is keeping an eye on Palmer - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Palmer for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Santiago Palmer.
Palmer cracks Aberdeen with a left hook right on the temple and Aberdeen goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! Palmer lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Aberdeen is OK!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Santiago Palmer!

Post fight, Santiago Palmer stared into the camera and said 'The losing streak is over! Fuck yeah! Thanks Boston for the fight again. You are always my good opponent.'.
