PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ahmed Lang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcelo Cavaliers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ahmed Lang had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ahmed Lang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Cavaliers!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cavaliers throws a combination. Lang tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Cavaliers looks for a takedown but Lang sprawls well.
Cavaliers lands a nice hook to Lang's body. Lang takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Cavaliers tries to bum rush Lang with a series of wild strikes but Lang uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Cavaliers shoots in looking for a takedown. Lang tries to sprawl out of it but Cavaliers keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lang manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Cavaliers darts in looking for a takedown but Lang gets double underhooks and turns Cavaliers into the cage.
Lang is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Cavaliers.
Ahmed Lang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcelo Cavaliers.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Lang is nestled in close to Cavaliers, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Lang wants to work for an arm triangle but Cavaliers is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Lang thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Lang has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cavaliers is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cavaliers is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Lang is working for a kimura but Cavaliers is defending it quite comfortably.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Lang is working for a submission of some sort.

Lang seems to be looking for submissions.
Cavaliers trying to control but Lang postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Lang lands a nice short elbow.
Lang with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


The fight stays on the outside here - Cavaliers looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Cavaliers gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Lang thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Lang is working Cavaliers over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Cavaliers looking for a guillotine here but Lang defends easily.
Lang controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Cavaliers not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lang controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Lang is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cavaliers can do to turn this around?
Lang keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cavaliers's head.
Lang seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Cavaliers is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Ahmed Lang overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Lang's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Cavaliers is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Lang jumps into side control!

Lang content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Lang wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cavaliers, who protects the arm well.
Cavaliers is trying to escape the position but Lang is controlling the position.
Cavaliers on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Lang is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cavaliers has escaped the position, nice work there.
Cavaliers tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lang wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Lang stands up and beckons Cavaliers to his feet.

Cavaliers gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Cavaliers breaks from the clinch.
Lang circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cavaliers closes the distance looking to clinch

and Lang counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Cavaliers is breathing heavily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Cavaliers moves in looking to clinch but Lang pushes him off.
Lang is looking for a counter combo.

Cavaliers tries to pull guard but Lang won't allow it.

Lang breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Lang drives through and clinches with Cavaliers against the cage.

A frustrated look appears on Cavaliers's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Cavaliers keeps control of Lang as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Cavaliers tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lang smiles and moves away.
Cavaliers misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Cavaliers takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Lang closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cavaliers circles away.
Cavaliers tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Cavaliers shoots for a double leg takedown but Lang sprawls well. He's pushed Cavaliers's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Cavaliers or perhaps it was just good defense by Lang, which made it look bad.

A head kick misses from Lang.

Lang feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Lang is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Cavaliers is working an open guard so Lang takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Lang gets a clinch.

Lang pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Lang drives through with a takedown into guard.
Lang is standing up over Cavaliers. Cavaliers looks to escape but Lang dives into side control.
Cavaliers really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lang. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lang is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cavaliers has escaped the position, nice work there.
Cavaliers is letting Lang control him for a moment.

Lang creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lang, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
