Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roy Du Toit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Deair Shaw!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Edson Gomes and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaw misses with a leg kick.
A jab lands there for Shaw.


It looks like Roy Du Toit has been cut.
Shaw fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Shaw closes the distance looking to clinch

and Du Toit counters with a single leg into guard. Shaw didn't expect that.
Du Toit looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shaw escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Du Toit gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Shaw has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Du Toit off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Shaw has taken the fight to the clinch.
Du Toit is trying to pull guard but Shaw turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Du Toit misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Du Toit prevents a takedown attempt there.

Du Toit jumps guard.
Shaw must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Shaw pushes down on Du Toit's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Du Toit is looking to improve his position.

Shaw has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Du Toit can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Shaw is on top in guard.

Du Toit might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Du Toit manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shaw manages to get himself to full guard.

Shaw is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Du Toit is controlling him.
Shaw wants to improve his position but instead Du Toit has moved into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Du Toit avoids the attempt from Shaw to control.

That was a close round but I would say that Roy Du Toit will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


A shot to the liver by Shaw. Beautiful body shot.

and Shaw counters with a series of strikes. Du Toit will be more careful next time no doubt.
Du Toit circles away from the clinch attempt.
Du Toit looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Shaw shoots in looking for a takedown. Du Toit tries to sprawl out of it but Shaw keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Du Toit manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Du Toit shoots for a double leg takedown but Shaw sprawls well. He's pushed Du Toit's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
It seemed like Shaw was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Du Toit closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Shaw's guard.
Shaw manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Du Toit manages to get himself to full guard.

Shaw passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Shaw decides to stand back up. Shaw steps back and let's Du Toit get back to his feet.
Du Toit stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Du Toit wants it to stay on the feet.
Shaw shoots for a takedown but Du Toit saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Roy Du Toit has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Deair Shaw.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Shaw doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Du Toit counters by clinching up.
Du Toit is trying to pull guard but Shaw turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Shaw jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Du Toit walks away with a smile on his face. Shaw gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Shaw changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Du Toit tries to avoid it but Shaw manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Du Toit to the ground. Du Toit escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Roy Du Toit has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Deair Shaw.
Shaw is looking to land body kicks.
Shaw blocks a head kick by Du Toit.
Du Toit tries a head kick but it misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shaw fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Du Toit, pushing him back against the cage.

Du Toit stays in close to Shaw's body and controls the position.
Shaw is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Shaw wants to control but Du Toit is keeping him busy.

Roy Du Toit overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Shaw stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Shaw moves into range and clinches up with Du Toit.

Du Toit manages to break the clinch.
Shaw throws a sloppy head kick and Du Toit moves out of range easily.
Shaw shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Du Toit defends it nicely.
Shaw is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

and Du Toit counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Du Toit.
