PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dean Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Molipo Cohones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dean Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Molipo Cohones!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cohones darts in looking for a takedown but Diaz gets double underhooks and turns Cohones into the cage.

Cohones darts in and clinches Diaz up against the cage.
Diaz tries for a takedown but Cohones manages to get underhooks.
Diaz fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Cohones decides to pull guard.
Cohones pulls Diaz in to control the position.

Cohones has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Diaz is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Cohones.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cohones dodges the ground and pound from Diaz.

Diaz is trying to ground and pound but Cohones uses the momentary lack of control by Diaz to regain half guard.

Diaz tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cohones just stands there and leans against the cage.

Diaz jumps guard but Cohones stands there with Diaz around his waist. Diaz gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Cohones manages to pull guard.

Cohones escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Diaz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Cohones is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Diaz defends well.
Cohones is adopting a defensive guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Cohones looking for a guillotine here but Diaz defends easily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Diaz shoots in and drives through. Cohones sprawls well.
Cohones throws a counter combo.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Diaz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cohones sprawls well. Cohones wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Diaz looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Diaz shoots for a double leg takedown but Cohones sprawls well. He's pushed Diaz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

A quick step to the side and Diaz tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Diaz stuffs the takedown attempt from Cohones. Cohones gets slowly back to his feet.
Diaz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Cohones manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Cohones is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Diaz scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Cohones manages to mount him!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cohones is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Diaz has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Diaz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cohones on the ground.
Cohones content just to control the position here.

Diaz is looking to improve his position but Cohones isn't that keen on the idea.
Cohones blocks Diaz's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Diaz is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Cohones has hold of Diaz's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Diaz manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Diaz wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Cohones goes for an armbar but Diaz turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Diaz.
Diaz loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Diaz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cohones has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Diaz has managed to get both his arms back between Cohones's legs - danger averted.

Molipo Cohones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Cohones thuds his right hand into Diaz's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Cohones fails with the takedown.
Diaz is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Diaz gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Cohones counters by clinching up.
Diaz is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Cohones pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Diaz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Diaz tries to keep at a distance but Cohones has taken the fight into the clinch.

Cohones escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Some bone on bone action there as Diaz checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Cohones fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cohones leaves Diaz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Cohones gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Diaz wants to get back to his feet but Cohones is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Cohones with a flurry of punches that miss.
Diaz is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cohones is controlling him.
Cohones is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Diaz is looking to stand up but Cohones isn't so interested in that idea.

Diaz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cohones can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Diaz wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Cohones manages to pass to side control.
Cohones works his way into full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz is trying to stand but he's just given Cohones his back.

Cohones is hanging on to Diaz's back as he tries to escape.
Cohones controls the position.
Diaz is trying to get back to his feet but Cohones has full control of the position and if anything, Diaz has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dean Diaz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Molipo Cohones is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
