PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kuntet Wijoyo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Sharpe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ricky Sharpe will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wijoyo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sharpe.
Wijoyo definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Wijoyo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sharpe was covering up waiting for the punch and Wijoyo finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sharpe throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Sharpe is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Wijoyo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sharpe defends it well.

Wijoyo jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sharpe walks away with a smile on his face. Wijoyo gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Sharpe fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Sharpe pushes Wijoyo up against the cage in a clinch.

Sharpe pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Wijoyo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Sharpe looks to land a combination but Wijoyo avoids it well.

Sharpe tries to close the distance and clinch but Wijoyo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sharpe scores with a one two! Wijoyo had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sharpe throws a combination. Wijoyo tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Kuntet Wijoyo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ricky Sharpe.

Wijoyo shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Wijoyo was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Wijoyo is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Sharpe is defending well though. Wijoyo let's go of the attempt for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Wijoyo on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Sharpe lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Sharpe.

Wijoyo closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sharpe's guard.

Sharpe has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Wijoyo off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Ricky Sharpe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Wijoyo looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Sharpe pushes Wijoyo off looking to stand but Wijoyo dives back in and keeps control.

Sharpe tries for a takedown but Wijoyo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
As Sharpe looks to move away, Wijoyo throws a big counter combo bu Sharpe just gets out of the way.

Wijoyo has taken the fight to the clinch.
Wijoyo lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Sharpe gets underhooks to prevent Wijoyo's takedown attempt.
